  • In fairness, US Nationals don't know what a liberal is either. The Canadian Liberal Party is not liberal.

It seems to me that it's pretty much a relative term, what's Liberal in one country might be considered leftist in another. According to our spectrum, I'd say that our Liberal party is pretty much in the middle where it's supposed to be.

I still don't see how that makes 30 million people stupid. Care to explain that remark?

He obviously doesn't mean the 30M people, just the 18M or so that support the Liberals here.

        • Willem,

I guess I'll have to add English patriots to the list as well.
          Missed this... I'm not English.

I think "liberal" is a fairly well-defined term. If you, and the US, and others choose to misuse the term, there's not much I can do about it.

Well, the fact that you've got so high-and-mighty over a throwaway remark is probably as indicative as anything...

            From the Oxford Dictionary:

Liberal - favouring moderate political and social reform

Please explain how our Liberal party varies from that definition.

Calling every single member of a nation "stupid" is hardly a throwaway remark. It's an insult.

No, but have you noticed how quickly they back down when surrounded by a bunch of Canucks? Down right peaceful compared to most other threads.

                  • Ontario, in London. But I spent a number of years living in Victoria awhile back. I still wonder why I left sometimes. Especailly on days like today when it's -10 C outside. We've been having a cold snap lately that just doesn't want to go away.

Victoria is absolutely beautiful. I've always liked the fact they pride themselves on being more British than the Brits!

I'm still deciding which I like best, prolly end up where the work is though.

The PCs are cool now, but they have a bad history and Joe Clark is a very iffy leader.

The Liberals have walked into scandal after scandal and mismanage billions of dollars each year, and their support goes up.

Conclusion: Canadian Federal politics suck as usual.
