Malcolm X was shot, wasn't he? About McKinley, you said "last century", and I think it happened in 1900-2000. Some deranged-type character tried to shoot FDR before his 1933 inauguration, I believe, and Ford's shooting by some fomer member of Manson's family, don't remember the details.

Can't say I'll shed any tears for the man, but assassination is almost always counter-productive."Beware of the man who works hard to learn something, learns it, and finds himself no wiser than before. Ok, Huey... Malcolm was shot? McKinley is over 100 years. Roosevelt, ok.
FDR and Ford?!
The attempt on FDR's life actually killed the mayor of Chicago, Anton Cermak. There are conspiracy theorists who contend that Cermak was the target all along (these were the days of Al Capone, after all).
Also, Puerto Rican nationalists attempted to kill Harry Truman when he was living at Blair House while the White House was being renovated. I think this one stands as the only attempt on a Prez with something other than a gun (they had knives, IIRC). Edit: Actually, they may have been trying to kidnap him, not kill him. Now I'm not sure.
Finally, Nobody seems to have mentioned Bobby Kennedy (edit: yes they did; I missed it) or the attempt on George Wallace. That brings the total to 11, or 12 if you count Ford twice.Last edited by Rufus T. Firefly; May 7, 2002, 02:40."I have as much authority as the pope. I said last 100 years.
I mentioned Both Kennedy's.
Ok, fine, we like to try to kill our leaders .“I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”

that is why i enjoyed netherlands and dutch way of life
it is perfectly legitimate to say 'we will decide who will immigrate'. netherlands has no obligation to solve welfare problems of the world. why he was branded 'extreme right', i do not know. i reckon its time for some postmodernist political brands instead of the old horseshoe system. i mean, he was gay and for MJ legalization. how right wing is THAT?
troll part: i expect some mass rallies in france in support of dutch democracy, against violence, etc. etc.

Dutch posters might want to take a look at this site, it's just extremely scary what people are saying about the muslims and/or left-wing activists supposedly (to them) behind the murder."I will not give you a cup of water if you were drowning in the desert!"
Just my favourite CIV-quote. :)

Even though I don't support his views, I do believe he was sincere and I don't believe he was a facist.
A few of his followers are racists, though."I will not give you a cup of water if you were drowning in the desert!"

Although he make some remarks which were IMO racist in nature ("Islam is a backwards culture"), I don't believe he was actually a racist or a fascist.
The things that some Fortuyn supporters are saying are quite scary indeed, but for some reason I can't say I'm very surprised...

He was a "weird" apple.
Definitely not right wing as traditionally right wingers go...
He was not "conservative".
One thing that I see is underlining every such personality (like Le Pen too) in Europe these days is that they are all anti-immigration.
I suspect Greece will soon have one of these people too.

There's some more information about the murderer of Fortuyn.
It was just released that he's a member of a moderate environmental activist group, apart from being a married father.
The link between environmental activism and Fortuyn is very unclear."I will not give you a cup of water if you were drowning in the desert!"
Just my favourite CIV-quote. :)
