Yes, but if he destroys the capital by buying snickers bars and going on a binge, he's not deploying the capital is "capitalistic" fashion. That is to say, not creating wealth.
But you're quite right. The initial discussion centered solely around dollars, when we all know that "capital" is that, plus equipment, land...lossa stuffs.
The point tho, and key difference is that in a command economy, there first must come a "point of confiscation" (if we assume that the previous society allowed private ownership).
Government steps in and says..."oops...sorry, that building you spent your whole life paying for...yeah, we own that now."
No more private ownership. Everything resets to equal (Kid's dream). No one has any assets, 'cept for the government, and no one can "own" any assets.
In that environment, there is no capitalism. Well, there is, but it's typically underground, and the penalties for getting caught can be (and in Russia, were) quite harsh.

Kid....*sigh* One day, maybe you will see the light.
One day, maybe you won't see monsters lurking around every corner.
One day, maybe you'll realize that the proposed "utopia" you bring to the table for comparison with the current system would create far worse monsters than it destroys, and in the process, would destroy the lives of a lot of good people out there.
That will be a fine day indeed.
In the meantime though, I love how you get worked up over, and refuse to believe that people actually WANT to rent from me.
That's hysterical!

Azazel - capital can also refer to machines - say a factory. Hiring people to work in the factory would be application of capital.

Well, these are two different things. First of all, the banning of private enterprise, and "the point of confiscation". The whole "point of confiscation thing can be avoided by a deep estate tax, for example, or deep taxation, in general. By taxing corporations heavily, the government aritificially lowers their market value, by lowering it's margins, and then can buy them cheaply. Their profit margins can be bad enough for people people wanting to sell them. Then, no point of confiscation. Of course, this is "anti-bussiness", but boohoo.

Ahhh. Well yes. I suppose you have spoken with them on this matter and know their mind on it.
They must have been lying to me out of a sense of fear of greater exploitation down the road then, when they told me their resons for preferring to rent.
Dangit Kid, you could REALLY do well on that psychic hotline thing...I'm not kiddin'! The way you can just zero in on what's inside people's heads and all, without even having met them!
There is no doubt about it. When the revolution comes, you should be in charge. An ability to so keenly register people's innermost thoughts like that....simply invaluable.

Of course, it might prove helpful if you'd actually READ my posts before continuing the rant, but that is only a suggestion.
