    • The problem, in your specific case, Kid, is WHERE you live.

California has a well known housing problem. Prices are soaring.

I have told you the median prices here, and they're, IIRC, less than one quarter of the housing costs in Cali.

Location is your bugbear. If you are unwilling to relocate, then it is one you must continue to deal with.

My purchase of two homes from the thousands available here did not cause the housing spike in California. Blame that on the Valley, and the population growth of California in general.

And while you may not care about the military, one of my renters IS military, so I care a great deal. Of course, you selectively overlook that point, cos it doesn't fit in with the whole "Vel is a Monster" thing you've got going on, so I understand that, but the facts is the facts.

You live in the most expensive state in the Union. If the housing prices are too high...MOVE!

There. Done deal. How hard was that?

Nothing is gained by continuing to stay there, apparently not making enough money to contend with the higher prices. Sure, you can whine about it ad nauseum, but does that not get tiresome after a while?

And I suspect that it does nothing to aid in the resolution of the situation.

Again, just more thoughts from your friendly neighborhood Capitalist Pig-dog.

As to the rental situation....I'd like you to read those posts again, and point out to me *precisely* where there is exploitation.

Show me where I'm getting money for not doing any work.

Show me where I'm getting "more money than I deserve" and gouging these poor unfortunate souls I gathered into my evil clutches.

(Hey Tubes, we're thinking of buying another one....wanna? )

'Zazel: True dat, that it could be phased in, but this would likely not occur, because I see no scenario in which commies take power peacefully in this country. They'll do it by force if at all, and WHEN they do it, they'll want immediate, not phased, implementation.

      • Obviously people have to rent where you live too. Don't act so stupid.

        • Kid: No, that's not what I expect them to say. They were actually both quite savvy negotiators. They knew what they wanted and we dealt. We were both happy with the results.

From a personal standpoint, I like the notion that I'm on track for paying one of the three off in the same timeframe (well, one year longer) than most folks finance vehicles for...I think that says good things about my ability to manage projects like this, which will make me inclined to do more of it in the future).

We are on friendly terms, the folks who rent from me. They do not see me as an overlord...in fact, they do not see me much at all, unless something breaks, or the lawn guy doesn't show.

And in exchange for using my property, I get compensated.

Still waiting for you to show me how this makes me Satan's First Cousin.

your problem is California, not Vel buying 3 houses that in South Carolina( I believe).

How is that in anyway stupid?

The only stupidity here is you blaming Vel for your not being able to buy a house.

This wouldn't likely occur, because the corporate media will spread lies about it. You don't know how hard the corporate media fights for privatization and against nationalization, because you've never encountered govt. corporations privatized, I suppose, in the USA. I have seen the media reports, and I know the truth of at least one corporation, from the inside, through one of my family members who was an employee for the private corporation, and knew everything that went on, including bribery. I know that many things will have to occur before such a thing happens. Just telling you that it's possible.

              • Why is it so alien to you, I wonder, that some people might PREFER to rent?

Why is it so alien to you, who are so keenly interested in seeing that people get full compensation for all their labor, that I want compensation for mine, where the houses are concerned?

Is it not the same thing?

I'm out there busting my a$$ keeping those houses up. AND the pressure of the mortgage is hanging over MY head. I'm the one at risk, not them.

Should not that risk be compensated, in your universe?

And who's to say that, after the house is paid for, you won't sell it to one of those unfortunates that can't afford one right now.

You could even do a lease to own deal where the people that can't afford a house now, may be able to buy your house from you in a year or so.

This is acting stupid. You are admitting that the problem is demand for houses. So you know all about scarcity. But you don't want to admit that people buying houses to rent and not to live in contributes to the problem and raises rents. That's acting stupid. And now you are just acting stupid by saying that where Vel live is different, but you know it's not, otherwise Vel wouldn't be buying houses to rent there.

                      • Tubes: I'd certainly not be against it. Ideally, I'd like to locate all the properties I buy more centrally....these two are quite spread out, just to get me started, and it amounts to too much driving. Still, as time goes by and we get more, I'd definitely be interested in off-loading the ones that are outside the 'net, so to speak.

                        Excellent point!

Well, in any case, you'll have to have a communist president for that. There are no such strong positions anywhere else besides the USA.
