JohnT: I don't see why the fiscal conservatives should be unhappy with the Dems. Compare yourself to the rest of the world, and consider yourself lucky that they are your LEFT, goddammit.

Don't you think the poor are already picked on enough in America, with the ghettos, the insane punishment laws, and the drug prohibition non-sense, without having them to die for lack of medical insurance?

I don't even think his campaign made it to Georgia in 2000, but I'm pretty damned sure that if we had actually elected that sad-looking man to the presidency we wouldn't be talking about a constitutional amendment legalizing discrimination. :sigh:
I remember when a Forbes rep made it into New York. He had given up on his campaign by the time he made it to us. The good thing is he used his campaign credit card to pay for everyones liquor for the night. His only response was: "Oh god, I'm going to get fired for this." We just patted him on the back and said: "Don't worry, he has plenty of money, and it'll be over soon."

Iraq War - I am for it
Abortion - I am against it but will make compromises when rape is involved
Religious Charities - Keep it out of government
                  Gay marriage - Totally FOR
                  Bush Tax Cuts - For

iraq war -- neutral, opposed to the way it was handled.
abortion -- against, but within current framework, allow abortion but give equal amounts of funding to both abstinence-based initiatives, non-abortion family planning clinics, and so on.
religious charities -- allow them to compete for the same funds that non-religious charities do.
gay marriage -- government has no business defiing a religious contract. set up a system where equal rights are granted, let the term "marriage" be hashed out by the churches.
bush tax cuts -- against, simply because with tax cuts should come spending cuts. he didn't do the spending cuts, that ****ing idiot.

Many other Republicans are thinking of voting libertarian. However, they are scared of losing power over appointing judges (which is a major thing, of course).
I than a republician who will vote for Kerry. First Bush is than total screw up leader. He committ prejury about the WMD. He is mishandleing the war on terror by not getting moderate Islamic leader to back him. Preempty attack is than dumb policy which will lead to more distate for America. Bush fail to put those Christian Fundie Minister who make those supid remark against Islam in jail for startly religious war with Islam. That why
Bush get no support from moderate Islamist leader round the world. There going to be than civil war inside of Iraq as we screw up the war and occup of Iraq big time.
By the year 2100 AD over half of the world population will be follower of Islam.

                      • what it boils down to is that while looking back on it, i do think bush was better than gore, i cannot support bush for a second term precisely because i do not support his policies in regards to scientific learning (stem cell research. yes, it may violate my anti-abortion thing, but seriously? if those frozen embryos were going to be shunted down to the incinerator, what's the real difference if they get used in experiments, anyway?), i dislike the patriot act, detest his frequent pandering to the more vocal segments of the christian right who would love to make sure we're all doing the right thing(TM) in our own bedrooms, dislike his dismissive attitude towards those who disagree with him, even if he's damn wrong, and the simple fact that i don't like people who spend money they don't have, knowing full well that they're leaving the tab for someone else, namely me, to pick up.

                        ****ing *******.

A lot of Republicans are not racist, but a lot of racists are Republican.

I don't understand the concept of voting for someone just because you think he's going to win.

                              Extraordinary thread!

Imran, I recall very distinctly, during the aftermath of the 2000 election farce, you were trying to placate some of us despondant posters. You were reassuring us that it didn't matter that Bush wasn't very bright, as he was surrounding himself with some top-flight advisors. Perhaps you were thinking of Cheney, Rove, Ashcroft, and Rumsfeld?

So now I don't quite understand why I am not enjoying the spectacle of you feasting on a platter of humble pie. Maybe it's because, although I often disagree with you, I have a lot of respect for your points of view, as it seems you really do think them through.

Or maybe it's because it takes a man of true character to admit he's been wrong - WAY wrong in this case.

So now I respect you even more now - even if I doubt I will ever be able to comprehend your adoration of Reagan, of all people!
