From what I understand, and I'm no expert, Gibson belongs to a sect that dismisses the Vatican decree that staes that the Jews were not responsible for Jesus's death From what I understand, the church holds all the sins of mankind as responsible for Jesus' death or something like that(?). (Also, many historians also believe that the Jews weren't responsible, either, IIRC. eg, I've heard that the Romans wouldn't have crucified a guy just because the "jews" called for it, etc. But like I said, I'm not an expert).

Anyway I haven't seen the film and can't really judge, but if his movie starts ressurecting long dead canards that raises religious tensions, on him.

I also find the claim of the movie being completely and unterly historically accurate and then using latin in places greek would have been used a little amusing.

No, if anything Christians are taught that they are ingrafted branches in Paul's letter of the Romans, while the Jews are the true branches. Sad how no one reads this portion.

I'm not going to put a label on or judge Mel Gibson. I haven't seen the movie, nor do I plan to. I called all the conservatives who were moaning about the Reagan movie, "dopes" primarily because they didn't see the movie. Anyone who calls Gibson a jew hater or nazi without seeing the movie is just as much a dope.

They wouldn't. Why would the Romans want one religious sect to kill people of another religious sect? That just creates chaos which was decidedly un-Roman. If the Romans were the ones responsible for killing Jesus then it was because Jesus was becoming too much of a rabble rouser... that order thing again.
