  • I would send the message. The worst thing that happens is that PAL rejects it, and that leaves us no worse off than we were before.

The only bad move to make in diplomacy is NOT talking to everyone, constantly, at all times. Look at how we're gotten value out of everyone in this game at some point, even Rabbits!

      Hi Cres,

We're going to make one last try to swing this trade...

Philo is integral to Team RB's mid-term strategy, so we're going to get one way or another within the next 6 turns. By trading for Philo, Team RB saves research time, and PAL gains 1144 beakers of trade value.

Engineering offers PAL the immediate benefit of increased road movement, and the chance to train Trebs which would surely help your war efforts.

If Angkor Wat is the Wonder you are targeting, in addition to Philo for Eng, we will trade you our only Stone for your Banana for the next ten turns. We're not interested in Angkor anyway (no self-founded religion, GS-based strategy), but we hope this offer will make it clear that we won't try to build Angkor for denial purposes, as the cost without Stone is way too high.

We look forward to your reply.

      Cheers,

      Team RB

      • On a different matter:
We expect Imperio to declare on us on the next turn. They have amassed a sizable army.
Seeing on how your economy needs open borders with Imperio to get the maximum intercontinental trade routes, we don't think you would agree to close borders with Imperio. However, we would ask you to cancel the Gold - Ivory deal with Imperio. We would supply you with a happy resource of your choice as compensation.

        Thanks
        Team RB
        Every little helps.

        • Was this sent or is it a proposal? I'd be okay with that, though I doubt they will do this.

            • I've tweaked the wording a bit without changing the intent:

              On a different matter:
We expect Imperio to declare on us on the next turn. They have amassed a sizable army which is now looming on our border.
Knowing that your economy needs open borders with Imperio to get the maximum trade route income we doubt you would agree to close borders with Imperio, however we would ask you to cancel the Gold - Ivory deal you have with them. We could supply you with a happy resource of your choice as compensation.

              Thanks
              Team RB
I'm not convinced that we should send this yet though. Gold is worth +2 Happy to a city with a Forge so Pal are not likely to give that up easily, and their goal stated earlier is to supply all sides with Ivory to ensure a fair (if bloody) fight. I think that we should perhaps save this request for if Templars also declare and cut off our supply of Ivory...

              • As to this (and mh's other proposals) we should wait for Imperio to actually declare war before sending out such requests. We've told PAL before that we were on the brink of war, and it hasn't yet happened, so we'll not look credible if we send this now (aside from the fact that it'll remove the slim chance we have of getting Philo by making our Stone offer look fraudulent).

                • I agree Swiss, but also agree that we should send it right away once the war horns sound.

                  • We should NOT send this request. Why would PAL even consider agreeing to it? We are a bigger threat to them, passing Imperio in every category. So if anything, it would be in their interest to support Imperio in upcoming conflict. If Templars join in, we could argue that such an alliance against us threatens balance of power, etc, etc. However, in straight RB v. Imperio battle, PAL would be more likely to support Imperio. Don't forget that at the time when they were happy to cooperate with us, we were a weak underdog struggling against big bad Imperio, an image that no longer applies.

                    • Well, PAL has clashing borders with IMperio in the channel competing for sea food resources.
Furthermore, thy don't see IMperios demographics yet.

                      • When I was logged in I chatted to PAL, who was talking about the football on tonight. Liverpool are 1-0 up by the way. I did not manage to extract who he was supporting. If he's a liverpool fan then we've got to watch ourselves with them. Anyhow, he said he had got our mail and they would reply. He said there were still members of his team that did not want to give away a tech that leads to liberalism. He was concerned about the lack of a date. I tried to reassure him, saying we were more concerned about staying alive than building universities and were not a threat. He asked for our plans after philosophy. I said we were still negotiating for a deal, but that we did not want paper/education and instead wanted guilds, nationalism and gunpowder in some order. He said he would communicate with the team and get back to us soon. Oh, it's 1-1, Ivanovic header. He seems quite a good defender, doesn't get much of a chance with Terry, Carvalho and Alex in the team. I got the impression that there is a possibility that PAL will make the trade, so I was wrong to say that the email was pointless - sorry. Right, pizza ready I believe.

                          • sooooo's a Brit? And here I was thinking that Scousers had an international reputation.

PS. Chelsea 2-1 Liverpool, and for some reason it's the nobody defender Ivanovic getting all of the goals?
You just wasted six ... no, seven ... seconds of your life reading this sentence.

                              Hi RB,

                              PAL is pursuing liberalism.
The PAL team won't trade any techs on the path to liberalism until the
                              liberalism race is over.

Looking to the future, what do Realms plan to research in the medium
term future? Maybe we can use this opportunity to pre-agree some
                              trades.
