  • Well first of all we would need Mysticism, right?
I would suggest to start with that tech, since we get a bonus from PAL, Imp & Tmp all knowing it already.
    Then Meditation & Polytheism.
In order to trade Monotheism we would need to research Masonry first.
I would not continue research into Masonry right now, but delay it until we maybe meet Rabbits and/or Banana (who both know it already) to get more bonuses.

What is our position on the religion that PAL will get with CoL?

    • Sorry about confusion on the price of techs. I thought Monarchy was the more expensive one.

I agree with the Monarchy+Mono for CoL offer. And we need to ask for passage for a Galley with scout, but that can wait until we see that there is definitely no way to get there without a RoP.

Can somebody draft a proposal for trade offer?

      • I clanged on the tech order: have now edited in Myst (for Medi).

Forgot about Masonry being need for Mono. We know Banana has Masonry, but what about our lot? Templars surely, and probably Imperio, but we'll find out soon enough.

        • My proposed email to PAL, which I'd like to send before the next turn starts if possible:

          Hi whiplash,

Slightly redudant now, but here's the confirmation that we agree to open borders without right of passage for units.

Is a religion still available at Code of Laws? Assuming this is so, we'll go to Monarchy via Polytheism, so you can take the (slightly) shorter route via Meditation.

All things being equal, we'd propose to swap Monarchy & Polytheism for Code of Laws. Would this be ok for you?

          Cheers,

          Swiss Pauli

          • I would mention our need/demand/request for right of passage for scouting purposes. We can emphasize that we are not exactly have a large scouting team waiting outside their borders anyway.

Can we include a missionary from them as a compensation for not getting the religion?

            • I don't see any way that PAL would agree to us scouting their lands. With their lack of military, we could sell them out to their local rivals having confirmed their weakness.

But PAL doesn't know the extent of our C&D knowledge so we can still sell them out anyway...

              • mh, I honestly don't think we need Open Borders with PAL to meet the other two civs on the eastern continent. Of course, it's impossible to say for sure until we actually get over there... We could mention that we won't scout their lands, but may need to move a singular galley past them to meet the other teams. Do you think they would be OK with that?

By the way, PAL just traded techs with Templars. They got Polytheism; can't see what the Templars got in return since we don't have Alphabet yet. It was some kind of Ancient age tech though.

Clearly, PAL is going to use their central position and contact with all six teams to trade their way to victory. There's really very little we can do about this until we have contact with Banana and Rabbits ourselves. Either we trade with PAL and put them further ahead, or refrain from doing so and watch the other teams benefit.

                • Sullla's 1st paragraph is what I had in mind. Their cities are all 1st ring anyway now, so we won't need to pass through their land most likely. But I want to avoid the possibility that we can't sail a galley by on of their coastal tiles.

                  • With PAL having Poly we'll have to offer something else to secure the Monarchy-CoL deal.

As to the 'no RoP', I'll try to think of a wording that allows both parties some limited access to coastal tiles controlled by the other.

I think we're going to have to encourage one of PAL's neighbours to take military action sooner rather than latter to clip PAL's wings. With Banana claiming Pyramids we're probably counting on the Rabbits.

                    • Version 0.2:

                      Hi whiplash,

Slightly redundant now, but here's the confirmation that we agree to open borders without a regular right of passage for units. One exception to this rule we would propose is that either party may request passage for its ships for purposes of exploration, or return from exploration.

Lastly, we agree to swap Monarchy & '100-120 beaker tech' for Code of Laws. We'll have to see how things look in-game to confirm which tech, of course. Does this seem OK for you?

                      Cheers,

                      Swiss Pauli

                      • Little typing mistake beginning of 2nd paragraph.

Can we include a statement about the religion?
                        Something like:
"Should the religion at CoL still be available, we would like to have access to it by means of missionary as soon as possible (PAL Galley)."

                        • We have open borders with PAL. Our trade routes are all with them, and are all (4 cities) getting +3 commerce. Nice!

                          • I like Swiss' text with M_h's addition about a missionary.

                            • I'd hold back on asking for a missionary: the unit may be free but they'd potentially need to invest hammers in an otherwise low-priority galley. If we need to offer a more expensive tech than originally planned (or if we spot a PAL galley, then we can ask for a missionary to sweeten the deal.

                              • Actually, since we are also asking Templars for a missionary, we don't really need one from PAL. I think the main point in asking for one is to say later "you don't have to send it, but..." as a bargaining point.
