Yes we have.

Holding back CoL will not do anything ... With both of us having it, it will be soo cheap for them to research it themselves (4-5 turns at most).

As for a CS sling, I bet Inca or Banana are already in the process of making Oracle, it's been so many turns, and I would be suprised if no one has started it.

I think we should reply that if they think they can use the barb problems as an excuse for not completing CoL research (dialling down to zero for imaginary upgrades), then it will stop Imperio slingshotting CS because either they choose another tech, or we beat them to Oracle. In the latter case we'll take Metalcasting and trade it to them for Currency.

Thanks for the prompt response, but how about the following plan:

We don't need CoL right now, and I doubt you do either, so do you think you could go to zero research and contact Imperio to let them know your barb problems leave you with warriors to upgrade ASAP? Mention the horses you're getting from us, and maybe they believe you.

So what's in it for PAL? Firstly, Imperio have a 2-gold, FP-heavy capital that will be a monster in Bureaucracy. If they get CS so early, they should be able to pull into a winning lead. If they amandon the CS Sling plan, and claim another tech on hearing of your CoL delay then we both avoid the nightmare scenario.

The second scenario is that Imperio delays Oracle, and allows TeamRB to steal it. We could grab Metalcasting and trade it to you for Currency, for example. This would turn a lose-lose into a win-win. Our ETA for Oracle is T95, but we'll see whether we can get this down by a couple of turns.

We understand that you don't want to behave unreasonably toward Imperio, but the stakes are enough for us to make this highly unusual proposal.

I am not sure giving away our ETA for Oracle was a wide idea.
We don't know whether Imperio promised to share the Oracle rewards with PAL as well?

No, it's quite clear from PAL's reply that they weren't overly concerned about Imperio getting a CS-Sling. It would be a great bluff if they have made a deal!

Also, I just realised that PAL won't want to delay CoL of a religion is still available, so I think we need to see whether we can beat Imperio to Oracle by chasing it as hard as we can

I am pretty sure that we are chasing as hard as we can. The only way I can think of speeding it up is running another worker down to help with the marble, but I am pretty sure it will not get there in time. Also, that move would make it unavailable for chops at the capital.

Another thought. PAL could be going for the Oracle as well.
They are industrious after all and having Priesthood for quite a while.

It's worth a shot, at least. Obviously we can't stop PAL from giving Imperio a Civil Service slingshot if they want. All we can try to do is convince them that's in no one's interest.

We saw your message after we got CoL.

But we feel the risk of them making Oracle before turn 95 is pretty low … Can you guys slave it and get it even faster? We won’t trade until they have maths anyway, so there is an extremely narrow window for them to do Civil Service sling (2 turns?)

We have been discussing out next technology and it seems CS is a good course of action, we haven’t decided how this will work in terms of trades but we have a lot of time.

Are we right in assuming you guys are pursuing the top route of the tech tree?

I think we should reply something asking them where the T95 number comes in, as well as confirm (vaguely) that we are going for the top of the tree

We mentioned T95 to them - so that is where it comes from. I think the Oracle hunt is over- if Imp cannot sling CS they will take a lesser tech.

I'd just confirm our top of tree intention (we already told them that) and leave it at that.
