  • We can tell them that "our team is on the western edge of the western continent, beyond Imperio and Templar lands". That should make us seem like even less of a threat. And I like the tech trade plan proposed above.

    • We have told them that.

woo hoo! My wife publishes her first book. Buy it now in paperback format at lulu and help me retire so I can write more BUG mod code.

      • We can just repeat it in case they forgot. This is as much info as we can give them without ingame map trading. To be more specific we can say something like "we control western third of our continent, with Imperio controlling north-eastern third and Templars in the south".

        • Yep, whatever makes them happy to have our scout explore their land. Shame though we mentioned the "most direct route".

          • Well - it will be hard for us to take a direct route with no knowledge of what we might find. If they give detailed instructions - then we will have to follow them, but there is nothing to say that we might wander off a direct route due to not knowing the lay of the land.

            • Yep, we want the scout to go through PAL's land, because he can easier wander from the right track unnoticed.
And the warrior heads east to scout the Rabbits.

To pacify PAL we can mention that we are in the far west with two rival civs and the channel between us and PAL or we could for example say that it took our exploring party more than 17 turns to meet PAL, giving them an indication of how unlikely an attack is.

              • this is what we said to PAL re our land mass on Aug 8th ...

Thank you for a description of the layout of your continent. Our island is square-like. We are in the Northwest, the Templars (Inca) are in the South and Imperio (Maya) are in the Northeast. In fact it was Maya that completed Stonehenge, not Inca. Inca's capital is quite fertile and they have founded 2 religions. The Mayans have flood plains and gold in their capital and look well set.
I still think it is valid. Could just re-send with some slight edits.

                • Yep, and mention we already send it like 2000 years ago.

                  • Keep in mind that PAL is supposedly under "new leadership", so they may genuinely not remember that message we sent earlier (it was six months ago). Of course, it could also be a diplo stalling tactic too!

                    • Did we ever send them anything?

We should reply to their request for information, and let them know that Imperio is ready to start training Elephants, so if they don't cancel Ivory deal, Imperio will easily crush everybody on our continent.

                      • Sent the following message:

Sorry about delayed reply. (Our diplomat was away for a few days.) The map of our continent looks somewhat like a square, with a large bay in the north. We control the western edge, with Imperio in north-east and Templars in the south. It took over a dozen turns for our Galley to reach a corner of your continent.

In terms of land quality, Imperio has a ridiculous start with several gold hills, flood plains, and military resources in easy reach. And a bunch of other resources just to make it even easier for them. Our land is not nearly that good.

For the tech trade, we already have Aestetics and Literature, so what is your ETA on CS? Third tech is up in the air right now, because Imperio has a dangerous advantage in terms of military technologies.

                        Regards,
                        Zeviz
We really have to focus on getting faster replies out, because good diplomacy is required to keep us alive. (Alienating PAL would leave us with 0 tech trading partners.) We've basically agreed on what to say almost a week ago, so I compiled everything into a draft and sent it. Sorry if I should have posted it here first, but everybody seemed to be in agreement and there was no sign of activity in 24 hours, which we can't afford considering how quickly situation is deveoping.

                          • I agree, well done Zeviz.

For our next message to PAL, I'd like us to suggest that we trade them Aesthetics and Literature immediately, they send us Civil Service as soon as they finish it, and we trade them the third tech as soon as we finish it, which will likely be somewhat after they finish Civil Service. This way, we both have to trust one another, we get Civil Service ASAP, and both sides benefit.

We absolutely must make sure this deal happens with PAL. I'm pretty confident that PAL is arranging to trade Civil Service to Imperio for one of their techs (Feudalism?) and we can't afford to be left out in the cold. If PAL and Imperio both get Bureaucracy, and we don't, we're going to fall out of the front-running pack real quickly.

EDIT: Also, the value of Aethetics/Literature is going to drop pretty fast when we complete Great Library. We should make sure that our deal with PAL is set in stone before we complete the wonder. Gotta move fast on this.

The ETA on CS is 5 turns now.

firstly - how can CS be 5 turns away if they are running 0% science? I think we better check our calcs.

secondly - lets do the trade: aeth first, then lit in 2 turns (will that endanger our GLib?) and then CS to us in 5 turns and ? to them when we get it. Lets put that on the table now.

Well, they are doing the same thing like us, switching between 0% and 100% science. Obviously they have to count the 0% turns as well into their ETA.
