    My turn already? I just finished playing 8 turns of moving 40 freights at a time in the no science game!

    I doubt I can play this weekend, early next week looks more like it, if that's OK. Otherwise someone else can jump in this weekend.

    Considering the gloves are off in a mere 49 more turns, we could either (a) grab Sun Tzu, get to Commie/Fundy and build a huge strike force to unleash at Jihad.
    apparently I couldn't think of a better alternative... although growth and mass trade under Demo should come first.

    Turnlog through 1752

    President Large Mean Bunny-Bun looks over the world situation and sees that is is giga-. It's 1660, and we've managed to get 9.94 MM people squeezed onto a small grassy continent. Just 175gp in the bank, and taxes set to zero, so the government is set to go bankrupt if I so desire...

    Studying Railroad, vow to prep for Darwin's. About 1/2-way there, but need cashflow.

    Hmm. Check for celebrations, reset to 30-30-40 and press ENTER...

    1670 AD -- 7.55 MM ppl, incremental camels being produced, the odd aqueduct is rushed. 3 civs get new techs. Notable that Americans completed Democracy.
    Our boats are really slow. Cloning some Einsteins.

    1680 AD -- Wandering ship finds Akka (Babs) near Cumae (Roman). Celebrations grinding to a halt (Mean City = 25).

    1690 AD -- Sliders mysteriously move to 50/30/20 (for 274gp minus 57 in costs). Babylonians complete Statue of Liberty (Indians abandon). Eins convert to the tax trade pending the completion of...

    1700 AD Railroad!! Choice of Economics, Feudalism, Industrialization. Seeing the Romans are building Adam's and won't talk to us, Economics is selected. (Silly Wabbit Wuvs ASmith!!) Americans go demo! Romans again decline give us a chance to wheedle Econ out of them despite gifting them first. Rail network begins.

    1710 AD -- Americans learn Steam Engine, start on la Tour Eiffel. We land a gem caravan and they demand an audience. Then they demand 150gp. then confirm we remain at WAR. We say a little prayer for the exposed camel, continue to incrementally acquire more of those cute little beasties.

    1720 AD -- Spanish learn Invention. Americans permit camel to deliver Gems to Boston, payoff is 724gp. Start to think I might get both ASmith and Darwin... Sewers installed in Sticky Meanie.

    1730 AD -- Germans get RR, we discover Economics, then offered Atomic Theory, Magnetism, and Feudalism. Tough call, as Sun Tzu is still there for the taking. But we want other Wows and our boats are ssoooo slow, we go Magnetism. Pop exceeds 8 MM. We've got some cash over 1500gp) for infrastructure, so sliders move to 10-30-60 to get back into celebration mode.

    1740 AD -- Romans build Adam Smith's Trading Company (in distant Cumae...) with NO WARNING! Meanwhile, several lovely white goods are purchased to enable/encourage growth in our cities. Growth noticeable in several cities...

    1750 AD -- Romans get Explosives. Bad Leroy Brown takes Darwin's Voyage. Really wanted Adam Smith first!!! Had the camels and cash to get there if I'd only had a warning...

    Anyway, we get Magnetism and Industrialization and are now studying the Corporation. Suddenly our slowly meandering fleet is no longer unhappy!!!!

    Spice to Cumae nets 207gp. Sewer built in Pool of Grace.

    1752 AD -- Spies report that specialist workers are now very different-looking. Transportation vessels are similarly bigger and stronger, too. Meanie population now at 9.14 MM and still growing, with Mean City either size 25 or 26.

    I want to exploit growth under democracy, especially with our very limited number of cities (not to mention, shields!!) before going Fundy. I think both Commie (pre-vet Spy!!) and Fundy will be offered among next techs.

    There are a couple of Dye camels (soon to be freights!) awaiting a transport, and a few wonder-feeder camels in Mean City.

    Considering the gloves are off in a mere 49 more turns, we could either (a) grab Sun Tzu, get to Commie/Fundy and build a huge strike force to unleash at Jihad.

    Oh, and here's the zipped-by-an-actual-PC version of the save...

    Not so much...

    ...a technical problem.
    But an accurate explanation would be unnecessarily detailed on the complexities of my RL gig.
    So let's just say I've been busy...

    Here ya go... STYOM is now up.

    The player after me gets a log up before I do??? That's no good.

    Set tax at 10% tax, 50% science, 40% lux
    1480 -- Sticky Meanie aquaduct-->bank
    Babs get Gunpowder
    Spain gets Bridge Building
    1500 -- Indians get Gunpowder
    Romans & Babs stop fighting
    Romans get chemistry from Americans
    Americans get invention from Romans
    Romans and Americans sign a peace treaty
    1510 -- Romans discover Economics, start A. Smith's
    Discover explosives-->Metallurgy
    1530 -- Romans get Gunpowder from Babs
    Babs get Sanitation from Romans
    Romans and Babs sign peace treaty
    1540 -- Mean City builds spice van
    Discover Metallurgy-->Democracy
    1560 -- Americans get Physics
    1570 -- BigBadBill Gold van to Veii-63g Caraval heads to Boston
    1580 -- Discover Democracy-->Conscription
    Odeo year, so Revolt to Democracy

    La Fayette-Consription is a nesscecary step towards Fundy-plus it give us Riflemen. I don't see what's wrong with that.

    Bob,
    No 'constructive criticism' from me, since SCG told you all (see previous post).
    ...except one point: we are researching Conscription, which is no use at all at the moment, since we are at peace with anyone... It would have been a much better idea to choose Magnetism or Steam Engine.

    Anyway, we have only 4 engineers at work and almost no cash to buy the required improvements if we wish to grow. Hence, lux are reduced to 20 and science to 0 during 2 turns. Then Research = 60, in order to acquire Conscription in 3 turns.

    Main events:
    1630: Romans discover Magnetism (kills the power of Lighthouse ). And they say No to our offer ("too busy working on our great project: Adam..."). We have just started researching Steam... so be it!
    1640: Ready for a small step of growth in smaller cities
    (the bigger ones, size 12, need both Colloseums and Sewer Systems: too costly at the moment)
    1660: SE discovered. We start researching RR.
    Our glorious capital now size 24; smaller cities close to size 8; all cities size 12 have started building Colloseums.

    well, i'm glad i rushed the aquaduct in Sticky Meanie, otherwise it would still be size 8... looks like there was no rush-buying whatsoever. as constructive critisism, if you were not going to rush buy anything and not grow any of the cities (even mean city didn't celebrate properly or it would be size 23 in republic and would still be growing by celebration right now), why leave luxuries at 40%? you could have gotten more science that way. But celebration growth would have more than made up for the lower tax rate by having several size 20+ size cites that not only produce more trade (ergo science) but can have scientists.

    As for growth, the reason the tax rate was so high was to facilitate the purchacing of desperately needed structures that allow growth (marketplace, aquaduct, harbor, sewer system and bank). Evey one of our cities can grow via celebration right now if we would rush-buy the structures they are building (well sticky meaning needs a sewer system instead of a bank) except that we have 2 cities supporting caravels - those should have been rehomed at Mean City before switching to Demo, that or discovering industrialization first so they become transports).

    Another point. Maxwells Hammer is going to waste food if we don't rush-buy the aquaduct this turn, as it is already size 8, is producing 6 surplus food and only needs 10 to grow (food is tabulated before production). Did i mention that if you put 2 of mean city's taxmen to work in the fields it can celebrate as is, even after wasting its food supply? Once we are forced into fundy, we won't be able to use celebrations to grow cities and the larger our cities are at that point, the quicker we can pump out conquering military, either by production or by rush-buying.

    Ok, constructive critisism placed on hold for now till i see the log
