    Here we go again. Catfish converted the scenario and Curt and I made some new graphics , but when it came to implementing proposed changes to the scenario there was a lack of interest.

    • I guess the most important question would be who is willing to take on the job of doing all the graft?

      Making the changes can take up a lot of time and be pretty hard going. As we can only work from one file the load cannot be easily shared.

      The best way of doing it would be to write up a list of who is to do what, something like:

      Director - (Organizes who is doing what and when)
      Tech Tree -
      Units -
      Cities and Icons -
      Map -
      Events -
      Text -
      Testing -

      This could be a real community project with everyone doing their little bit to make up the bigger picture. This way no one individual would be lumbered with the whole project. Obviously tasks can be shared but if one person is responsible for each task we would know who to go to.

      Just an idea!

      • @fairline

        I share your *sigh* but am not holding my breath. A couple of years ago when the idea of a RF TOT was red hot, the use of TOT as a scen platform was relatively new and designers were on a steep learning curve. The majority of the items listed in my laundry list of possibilities (my previous post) had not been worked out at that time.

        I retain the hope that the possibilities presented by TOT may eventually sufficiently intrigue one the excellent SL designers to undertake this major piece of work.

        • When I talked of fixing Red Front I meant utilising the improved features of ToT rules, terrain, units, etc...

          I think merely recreating the scen in ToT, and ridding it of the lumpiest events is all that we need do.
          The scenario is a classic already, and any detail changes should be carried out by the discerning user.

          The only overhauls should be to unit GFX and the most glaringly MGE-limited events. The fact that ToT
          can add many more events, with better commands would be useful. The nicer units and expanded rules
          features could be cool if used to add to this already great MGE epic.

          Though, I think going through the existing events and trying to make flags, masks and other upgrades would
          be tough, and need a major community effort, and only by experienced ToT wizards. Perhaps to ambitious.

          In any case, Red Front is nearly perfect. A few events could be streamlined.

          But I would be happy to see a mere visual overhaul.

            I have a converted ToT version, but not the new graphics. Where might I find them?

            Has Colwin's version been converted, and if so, where can I download it?

            • IIRC Catfish did convert his version. Dunno where to get it though. Ask him.

                    • I read your ideas on how best to improve the scenario into a redux version. It's very interesting and it is a pity that all these efforts have been unsuccessful.

                      I also think that the "too many units" problem can be circumvented by rethinking the creation of units by the Events file.
                      I changed the first Events file to test some ideas. For example, one unit killed gives only one unit by event.

                      • To avoid the "too many unit", I changed the setting up units in the first Events file.

                        Unit killed -> Unit created

                        Red army -> Wehrmacht
                        Wehrmacht -> Wehrmacht SG
                        T-26 Light Tank -> PzKw III Panzer
                        PzKw III Panzer -> PzKw IV Panzer

                        NKVD Trooper -> Wehrmacht SG
                        Motorized Infantry -> StuG IIIC
                        StuG IIIC -> PzKw IV Panzer
                        Partisans -> 105mm "Wespe"
                        Cossack Cavalry -> Wehrmacht SG
                        45mm Anti-tank gun -> PzKw IV Panzer

                        Machine Gun -> Romanian Infantry
                        Romanian Infantry ->Wehrmacht SG
                        T-28 Medium Tank -> Pz38t Light Tank
                        Pz38t Light Tank -> PzKw IV Panzer

                        I-16 Polikarpov -> Ju-87 "Stuka"

                            • @MacGalleo

                              FMK had a computer crash, lost the files he was working on and RL interfered. I haven't heard from him for several years.

                              Regarding the too many units problem, I would suggest that there are 150-200 weak German and satellite units at the rear of the German forces. These add nothing to the German advance and get into the fight only when the Soviets move west. These units can be safely removed from the scen, provided that events spawn German defenders when the Soviet offensives begin.

                              • I am going to work on an improved version by applying some ideas read on apolyton.
                                Fairline, Curt Sibling and others have already solved the issue of graphics with talent, no doubt.
                                I will propose the result and the community will determine whether or not to release it.
