    Thanks for the second, more detailed post. I finally figured out what you meant. The only additional point is that at the end one needs to copy the first ~350 bytes of the original redfront.scn into redfront TOT.scn to get the June '41 ghost turn.

    @fairline
    I deleted 90 German, 50 Russian, 6 Swedish and 1 US units. After some experimenting, that was as far as I dared to go. Nemo appears to have done a very precise balancing job in the initial number and location of units and the spawning of new units by events.

    Reducing the unit count makes the scen play a bit differently. From fast forwarding through a couple of turns, I'd guesstimate that the German advance is very slightly slower than in the original.

    By the end of the August '41, eliminating 147 units has less effect than I expected. Comparison with an old save shows that there is a decrease of only 61 units. The comparison is pretty rough because now I did nothing during the two Russian turns whereas in the old game I was using a scorched earth strategy and playing very carefully.

    I think that it would be a very good idea if others tested the new version as soon as possible.

      • Thanks Curt

        @ Agricola - thanks for your edits. I'll have a go at the scenario asap - which won't be for a little while with other commitments. I'll report my findings, but it would be useful if as many other people as possible test Agri's changes and report back. As an incentive, I'll give the graphics files to anyone who promises to play through RF and post their findings on the adjustments made by Agricola.

        • I just sent you the title for Red Front Gareth, it should be waiting in your inbox.

          I'm glad there's a renewed interest in getting this fantastic project underway once more. Looks like we might just finish this year in Civ II development with a bang!!

                    After I saw them in the Rise of Nations demo, stealing them for Civ2 was really a no-brainer. I only resized and compiled them. Big Huge Games is 100% responsible for the artwork.

                    • They do look fantastic indeed Curt and Catfish. Personally I think they'll fit in well with the tech icons, although I do like the style of tech icons you used in Dictator ToT as well.

                          Skeptics should forego any thought of convincing the unconvinced that we hold the torch of truth illuminating the darkness. A more modest, realistic, and achievable goal is to encourage the idea that one may be mistaken. Doubt is humbling and constructive; it leads to rational thought in weighing alternatives and fully reexamining options, and it opens unlimited vistas.

                              The converted scenario uses a batch file, modified from the original FW scenario. I seem to recall Field Marshal Klesh making further changes at some stage - for what purpose I've no idea.

                              BTW, I updated the files for the conversion to include a couple of minor fixes (labels.txt and people.bmp):

                              Red Front for ToT (1.28 Mb)
                              Sounds (2.64 Mb)
