          • How can there be so many points for military strategy ? And how may I get votes for that ? I haven't started to wage war... yet...

And how are you calculating the game score ? Do you look at the position every 30th of the month, or do you calculate the average position ?

And how the f*uck can there be so very few points for Japan ? Do you people all have deathwishes ?

            • I must say... Khmer's latest post deserves a cookie from me. And maybe a vote if nothing better comes along.

Looking at CivStats, the game scores are directly related to the current position this turn. I don't believe the game score is a rolling total. It is simply based upon the final position, so may change drastically by the end of the game.

                Code:
                [b]Player Nation Score[/b]
                Baba [i]Unknown[/i] 145
                Maya [i]Unknown[/i] 145
                Shiva [i]Unknown[/i] 138
                Piercia Persia 136
                Sparta [i]Unknown[/i] 128
                Roosevelt America 121
                Caesar Rome 115
                classical_hero Spain 112
                Chief Tarhe [i]Unknown[/i] 111
                Ozzy the Bateater	India 106
                Pitr Russia 105
                Wang Geon Korea 102
                celts Celtia 98
                raz Vikings 96
                Rhothaerill [i]Unknown[/i] 96
                Stinky Inca 92
                Emperor Lee Japan 90
                McFungal England 87
This is pulled straight from the CivStats websties, so there are no secrets realed here... However, the Unknown civs are those who have not regisered with CivStats, and setup their civ details. I must say I am a fan of CivStats' diplomacy features - which only work when both parties are registered.

                  • The 'unknown' in civstats are civs that are new in BtS.
civstats hasn't been updated since the release of BtS. It therefor doesn't know civs/leaders that were introduced in BtS.

Points are given based on ones position per category.
                    ie.

First place in 'Story Telling' category gets 18 points
                    2nd place: 17 points
                    18th place: 1 point

The position is based on the number of votes one got.
                    ie. 1st place: 3 votes, 2nd place: 2 votes 3rd place: 1 vote.

                    That creates a list like:
                    Swedes: 15 votes. (ie. 3 x 1st, 2x 2nd and 4x 3rd)
                    French: 12 votes (ie 2x 1st, 2x 2nd and 2x 3rd)
                    Palestinians: 3 votes (ie: 3x 3rd)
                    Belgium: 0 votes
                    Canada: 0 votes
                    etc. : 0 votes

Since Swede got the most votes (15) it has the #1 position in this list. That gives 18 points to them.
French has 12 votes, that gives them the #2 position: 17 points.
Belgium, Canada and all the other civs that didn't got any votes share the 4th position in this list. The 4th position gives them 15 points.

That's why that many civs got points for military strategy despite getting no votes.

The number of votes you got decides your place in the list
Your place in the list decides the number of points you get.

When time continues everyone will receive votes and thus the '0 votes' will not be an issue in a few months anymore anyway.

The votes of month 2 will be added to the votes of month 1.
Ie: French gets 12 votes (in category military) in month 1, 18 votes in month 2, 3 votes in month 3.
That gives them a total of 33 votes.
If Swede gets 15 votes in month 1, 11 votes in month 2 and 0 votes in month 3 then that gives them a total of 26 points.

That way French has surpassed Swede in the 2nd month.

Conclusion: being behind after vote round 1 means nothing.
There are many more rounds to come. Nothing is lost yet.
Only when you have performed very poorly for many months, then it becomes difficult to fight yourself back.

                    One lost month means nothing.

It's very well possible that next month the Greek will be last and the Inca are first.

I hope the voting procedure is clear, if not: please ask me.
                    This way it's most ballanced.

                    Some facts:
Greek got most story votes, then Vikings, Japan, Persia and Metalheads.

Korea got most diplo votes, then Rome, then Greece and Metalheads, then Maya

Maya got most votes in Military strategy, then Korea, then Rome, HRE, Persia and Portugal, Spain and Celts. The rest got no votes. (and share a 8th position = 12 points)

The game-score has been based on the in-game score.
(Maya/Portugal first, then Khmer, Persia and Greece)

                    • Most interesting part is btw that Korea is in the 5th position, while it holds the 12th position in the game-score list.

This shows that it's very well possible to be a top-ranking diplogame player while not being a top player just game-wise!

                            • My mistake... I shall pester Greg (OverloadUT) until he adds the BtS civs to CivStats.

Also, for those who are complaining that CivStats sends you too many emails, you can disable the email feature by using the preferences option on the CivStats website. I, for one, am intending to use the Diplomacy feature on CivStats in the future, and it helps if everyone is registered, as the site can be used to (privately) track diplomatic exchanges.

EDIT: He says he'll add BtS support into version 2.0 which he is currently working on (after I pestered him in to starting work on v2.0 a few weeks ago).
