  • Strangely, no-one seems to care about the unique buildings.

From the drawings, one looks like it might be the Greek Acropolis. Another might be a Roman villa (a couple look like some pictures of Pompeii). What else? Maybe an English manor (like from the medieval scenario in Conquests )? Any ideas what these buildings would do?

The second-last one looks Arab or Persian.

Speculation on that subject is already going.

Hey, that could be an interesting idea for a civilization. Powerful military units, maybe with free barracks in every city they own, or something like that but they can't build settlers/found cities. If they want cities they must conquer them.

About Warlord: If the the Warlord unit is actually another Great person will this mean we'll have another specialist, too? A Soldier? and what effect it could have on a city? Extra happines could be a possibility. Maybe increasing defense? Some other ideas?

          Probably a General.

I don't see what happiness would have to do with a military specialist. My guess is units built in the city would get extra XP points, though increased defence would be an option too.

No, I don't think, it would not follow the proportion between the other Great people/city specialists, you don't get bishops/great prophets, you get priests as the city equivalent of that great person

Think to a city watch. it would keep unhappy people under thunb.
But it is not a good idea, unless you make -2 unhappy people for every "soldier" specialist it would not make a difference

Free XPs? I don't know, it seems a little too powerful.

Probably the same thing as Civ3's original "Great Leader" which turned out really to be a great general.

                  • I'd make the military leader give the equivalent of +1 medic and +1 combat levels to all units stacked with it (e.g. your medic 1 combat 1 units would be medic 2 combat 2, medic 2 combat 2 would be medic 2/march combat 3, etc)

I don't think that any military specialist will be used in the same way as the rest of them. I'm guessing that the Warlord unit will be generated much like the Leaders in Civ 3, after successful battles from high level military units. And one option of things you can do with it will be to have a General super-specialist. I doubt if there will be a regular military specialist, it wouldn't make any sense. You can't pull some farmer or miner off the land and have him/her become a military expert. That's something that has to come from direct experience on the battlefield.

                        • How did they ever come up with the title "Warlords"? A warlord has the connotation of being a relatively small time military thug in time of anarchy who has seized a portion of a country or the head of a criminal enterprise which uses extortion and murder. (Therefore, a "warlord" typically is not a legitimate authority.) None of the leaders in any of the Civ games has been a warlord - not even Hatshepsut.

                          • That's modern meaning of warlord.

                            • Warlords? They were probably hard up for a term that would connote this was a military-oriented XP. You can't use "Conquests" again, or any derivatives like "Conquerors," too unoriginal and suggesting that everybody included was, though there are some peace-oriented military leaders like Washington. I don't know, for the bunch they're probably going to throw in, maybe it should have been "conquerors."

Chaing-Kai-Shek was a "warlord" during the modern Chinese warlord period. He worked his way out of it. (Of course, he's never been in the game, perhaps for reason.) Arguably, Mao was too, as he got started in the same period. And Genghiz had to unite the tribes before marching west. Of course, Mao and The Khan were in before the XP. I don't know; we're speculating again.

It's either Sun-Tzu or Machiavelli was exactlly that - a farmer that had an amazing knack for strategy.

And you are discounting things like Chess and Civ. Unless you are trying to say that Civ and Chess aren't heavy on strategy?
