it was funny to see with the civ4 release that the only real source of information where screenshots by the game magazines. and every time a new surprising thing came out, you saw solver and other alpha-testers whistling and drawing -smilies


but a question regarding that: don't gaming mags have certain NDAs? i mean, they also got to see some pretty early builds of civ4 (some even mentioned it)... how much are they allowed to disclose? is there any "article approval process" with censorship?

The more funny thing is going through some of the older previews. I remember reading various Civ4 previews, particularly Gamespot, and just cringing about how many things they got wrong.

This early on the screens are usually supplied by the publisher. Only once the game is beta does the press usually get access to a hands-on demos. And these are usually special builds, so if the devs wanna keep any secrets they just make sure the sensitive parts aren't in the preview build Of course the specifics vary from game to game, but that's usually how it works.

OK, what article is this you're referring to? My internet connection has been kind of sporadic lately thanks to a bad wireless card so I've been a bit out of the loop. Is there some new info about Warlords that I've missed?

So apparently the 6 new civs, leaders, and UUs in Warlords are:

Hannibal - Carthage - Numidian Merc.
Ragnar Lodbrok - Vikings - Berserker
Brennus (sigh...) - Celts - Gallic Warrior
Shaka - Zulus - Impi
Mehmed - Turks - Janissary
Wang Kon - Korea - Hwach'a

No Babylon!
The single most demanded Civ is left out AGAIN !!!

Well, I am pleased with Hannibal being included, but not so thrilled about Korea or the Zulus. It seemed to me that popular opinion was not swaying in favor of either of those civs.

I'm so-so with a (at best) half-known Viking being used as the leader of the Viking civ. But it's not a biggie.

Hey! Anybody who is down with Vikings knows the Rag-man! Ernest Borgnine was great playing him in a 1958 movie titled, well, "The Vikings." (What did you expect?) The Cornel Wilde character of that name in "The Norsemen" (1978, please don't suggest I suggested you actually watch this movie , ) was possibly supposed to be the future king, or at least inspired by him.

The Rag-ster sacked France several times, always upping the booty required to pay him off. His foray into Britain cost him his life, but gave his descendents excuse to sack various regions of that unfortunate island for generations after.
