    Not that it's important for me, since I have working hotseat now, and I'm not neither cheater, nor moder to get use of WorldBuilder yet.
    Ahh, good to know. I never use WB and I managed to dl and install the patch last night. I was worried my system would go up in flames if I fired up Civ4 now.
    Cake and grief counseling will be available at the conclusion of the test. Thank you for helping us help you help us all!

            For people who have some speed issue.
            The patch speed up the game. Yeah, Now on my Intel GMA 900, the game run smooth in the later age. I have no doubt about it, it's a significant speed up.
            For my video card it's just weird, as soon as I click on any advisor, the travel in the map after, get really smooth.

            They made new options in the graphics tabs.
            You can adjust the texture resolution, and you have a check to specify: Low Resolution(or Low Texture Resolution). But even if you choose any, it doesn't do anything. I think you have to restart the game to make the new settings work.
            But, when the game start, they look your hardware and I think the game setup the graphics automatically.
            Like for me, since the game is smooth now, I want to level up my graphics... but I am unable.

            see ya

            Edit:

            Maybe I can't change the texture resolution because I have Blue Mod. And I think it's the reason why.
            Oh yeah, the games keep telling me I'm below specification. But the games runs really smooth!!! You can disable the message in the civ.ini

            In the civilization.ini, you have new control over the games:
            Like these one:

            ; Disable PAK memory mapping (May affect performance)
            DisablePAKMemoryMapping = 0

            ; Copy entire image each frame, not just dirty pixels
            BinkCopyAll = 1

              So someone asked for the option to select low texture res, and that's what is in the patch! The option to select... (just clowning around)

                i think this sounds quite possible....

                  There are at least some graphics settings where it specifically says (at least in the pre-patch version) that you have to restart the game before the changes will take effect.

                      It also could be that since, as you say, the game is checking your system specs before starting that you are already set to low texture resolution, hence clicking on the option might not help.

                      (I didn't mean to belittle Firaxis' efforts to incorporate end-user requests into the patch, it just sounded funny.)

                      • I tried with the original graphics mod, and you have to restart the game to make it work. Even if it's not asking in the game.(it ask you only for Graphics Quality).

                        And I think this option doesn't work with Blue mod. With this mod, i'm unable to change the texture resolution, even if i restart the game

                        So even for a non-official patch, i'm happy to see the game speed up.

                        and for the bigger cost of space ships and late technology. In my game, i'll see if it make the late game longuer.

                        • Downloaded separately and installed the 1.08 patch, on my machine at work.
                          Having on-board video, I get the warning message, but the game still works. I can't really play, since I am at work, but I loaded a game to see how it goes.

                          • I checked a thread on CivFanatics regarding the patch, and it looks like people are getting mixed results. My impression is that people for whom the game is already working smoothly would probably be better off waiting for the official patch even if they can get their hands on the prematurely released one, unless perhaps they're adventurous enough to want to take a chance on introducing new bugs.

                            The thread is here.

                            • According to Chieftess over at CFC, the patch was pulled because a bug slipped through. See here:

                              If that's true, they will need to a) fix the bug, b) test the patch in house (Firaxis) and c) have the patch re-QA'd (Take 2).

                              So prepare to wait some more.
