    Celebrity encounters

Not sure ir this counts, but I met Michael Urie tonight.

Let me tell you, in case there was any doubt, he's as gay as a pink floral doorknob

We talked for like 5 mins, he also happens to be a big closet computer geek

    First:
    1) YOU ARE WELCOME for this inside information
    2) I DONT ****ING CARE IF YOU DONT KNOW WHO HE IS
    3) Kiss my ass

Thanks nd had a good night

I once walked past Jerry Seinfeld and his body guard on the street. 10 seconds looking straight into his face before he started to look at me back, at which point I looked away because he seemed to have a "oh no is this guy going to want to talk to me" look in his eye. (I didn't, because I was parenting my first baby and with my in-laws at the time and not feeling very sociable at all).

5 minutes later he was trying to get into the restaurant I was eating lunch in, and the maitre d' told him sorry they were full! His big body guard stepped forward, presumably to tell the guy who this was trying to get into his restaurant, but JS grabbed his shoulder from behind, shook his head and walked out.

One other time I ran into Australia's greatest ever marathon runner in a pub, went up to him and told him how he had inspired me as a child to take up running. He was very cold, bored, and sent out a strong "whatever" vibe. Fair enough, he was just out trying to enjoy a quiet drink with a mate.

Off hand I think all of the other celebrity encounters I've had were with minor celebs, and guess what - most of them seemed like regular folk. Except two - one, a stage and film actor, who just naturally gave off an energy level of 11 all the time, you could feel his presence easily whenever he was around, and the other a national tv current affairs presenter who shone so brightly that everyone in the large (100 people plus) restaurant was obviously aware of her presence without her doing anything obvious to attract attention.

Oh yeah, once I got upgraded to "business class" in an aeroplane in order to get off quickly to catch a connection and I was sitting across the aisle from a sleeping Labor ex-prime minister. The vibe from the corporate types in the rest of the seats was very prickly!

Apparently Ben Stiller once bought my brother dinner; he was waiting for a connecting flight in an airport in his army uniform with a couple of other soldiers, and it was a "thank you for serving" deal. That's what my brother said, I don't know if it's true. And who the deuce is Michael Urie? I already Wiki'd those vulvazuela horns this morning, I'm not Wiki'ing again.

Some guy on Ugly Betty, apparently. At least Asher got something out of this.

Ugly Betty is a tv show on ABC (the US ABC, not the Australian ABC nor the Philippine ABC).

I met Sean Michaels (pro wrestler) in the hospital cafeteria one day. Met George "The Iceman" Gervin getting x-rays there as well.

I met our (former, he was still in office back then) foreign minister escorted by some security guys on the street, but he did as if he wouldn't know me at all and faked a phone call to avoid talking to me!

    So who have I met?

    Geoff Hurst- incredibly nice bloke.

Will Carling- utter *****. Never met anyone more in love with himself.

Tony Robinson- accidentally head-butted him in a video library. He took it very graciously.

    Adrian Mitchell- lovely man.

I'm sure there are others, but I've forgotten them.

Coolio showed up, by invitation, at a party my friend's dad threw in a bar in Austin (reserved the second floor of Sidestreets, for those familiar with Austin) back in 1999. Had an entourage with him, but was plenty nice and spoke to everyone who approached.

The same friend, a big wrestling fan, spotted wrestler Kevin Nash in a strip club in Birmingham (AL, not UK). He was starstruck, so I went over to Nash's table and said something about my friend being a fan. He invited us to sit with him and we shared a couple pitchers of beer while he showed off his various injuries.

I suspect only the Chicagoans will appreciate this one, but as a kid I got my picture made with Neal Anderson in my dad's photo-processing lab.

My friend has a hilarious story about Adam Sandler at Urban Outfitters in NYC. He asked to use the bathroom and her co-workers refused.

Sandler himself talked about it on the Daily Show (about 30 seconds in)

What the **** is Ugly Betty? I haven't watched television in years but I'm kind of disturbed if ABC's hit lineup is some show called Modern Family about gay guys and a Vietnamese baby and a show oddly named Cougar Town ()

And here I thought ABC/Disney was a family network... more like flaming network.

Ugly Betty was cancelled this year.

I should bump the thread about Layton...

Not only have I met Jack Layton, I've seen him naked dozens of times. He's a douche of a politician who insists on talking politics while on a treadmill next to you, or while he's awkwardly sitting naked in a steam room.

I also saw Adam Giambrone repeatedly in the same gym.
