Okay strategy..
When do people consider it time to build caravans?? Considering they have a lengthy construction time, and can interfere with civ growth and development?
My suggestion is as follows.. A Settler churn to around 25 cities is necessary, using ships and warriors to locate best sites for new cities, looking for double and triple monos.. After a city has built a granary and an aquaduct (and nothing else) I place city onto Caravan churn until Mills.. I usually in this time have 4 or 5 double monos available, and carefully make sure I have trade goods in other cities to complete that Mono. I let (apart from early cities) trade cities grow with no more than one settler out. If a city has less than four turns to out a Caravan when I get Mills, then I build the Mill after that Caravan, otherwise it is straight to Mills. I max prod (still allowing some growth) in the Mill cities. My science at Mills, it usually around 1,000, and raises to around 1,300 when I complete any unbuilt markets and banks.. I ALWAYS go for Banks before Mills, as it gives me sufficient gold to start purchasing things when I really NEED to. I build a few ships, and have Commie as my Factories are coming out.. Then it is war.. Always war.. Kill crush and destroy.
PBEM pollutes your game, it makes you play differently.. Don't think so much.. I goosed up a game with Mathemamagician this way. But two games against Blackice online have put me right.. I kept it Basic, I did not alter my overall Strategy for external pressures (like my trade cities being bombarded by SOLS) .
