Never said that. Said he was the backup. He was better than the worst QB to ever win a superbowl, though.

      • I would guess that under the higher order criteria the Chargers don't come out ahead, hence resorting to this bull**** metric.
Right, because highlighting something that's unusual and unique about this year's Charger team, something that is rarely seen, is bull****. Gotcha.

best won-lost-tied percentage in games played within the conference
*sigh* It's SOV over the entire schedule. We've gone from 'bashing me for making **** up', to 'bashing me for pointing out something that's irrelevant.' So I take it then people who don't actually read what I posted are going to question the validity of the stat?

        • So why is SoV such an important stat?
It indicates that the Chargers were punching above their weight in beating the best teams.

Typical lying scumbag. Please feel free to quote the post where I accused you of pulling it out of your ass. You really are pathetic.

Ben's mind would be blown when he discovers who Jim Plunkett is.

Jim Plunkett 72-72, 25882 yards, 164 TDs. 52.5 completion percentage
Doug Williams 38-42, 16998 yards, 100 TDs. 49.5 completion percentage
Doug Flutie 38-28, 14715 yards, 86 TDs. 54.7 completion percentage.

Doug Williams is like a really ****ty Doug Flutie without the CFL career. Flutie averaged 1.3 TDs/game, and about 220 yards. So adjusting that for the extra 14 games, gives Flutie about 800, 900 yards more than Williams, and a handful more TDs.

Plunkett had a solid, but average career. His career value is easily 50 percent more than Williams.

Flutie, despite playing a year with the then 1-15 Chargers and 14 games fewer won as many games as Doug Williams who had a losing record (5-9) with the superbowl champions.

Sure, there's some ****ty QBs out there who won superbowls, but Doug Williams is the only losing QB among them. That actually takes effort, because generally ****ty QBs on superbowl winning teams manage to get to .500

If I had QB rating +, I would bet Williams is actually about 80 percent of the value of the league average.
                        1) Doug Flutie was never brought up by anyone
                        2) Jim Plunkett threw 198 interceptions to go with his 164 TDs. Doug Williams' ratio was 100tds:93int. Not sure how those picks mean he was '50 percent more' valuable.
                        3) It was not my intention to compare Plunkett to Williams. My point was that Plunkett was a below average QB who won two Super Bowls. There are many below average QB's who won a Super Bowl but he won two.

38 wins for Flutie, 38 for Doug Williams. By far the lowest total of any Superbowl winning QB.

                          2) Jim Plunkett threw 198 interceptions to go with his 164 TDs. Doug Williams' ratio was 100tds:93int. Not sure how those picks mean he was '50 percent more'.
25000 yards, and the TDs are 50 percent more. Easily. That, plus the win percentage, better completion percentage is about 50 percent more career value, eyeballing things.

                          3) It was not my intention to compare Plunkett to Williams. My point was that Plunkett was a below average QB who won two Super Bowls.
Ahh, bull****. You're retracting your claim now because you got owned.

Looking at all the below average QBs who won a ring, Williams is the worst. Plunkett is just a league average QB with a respectable career. Plunkett would be the 2nd best QB in an average draft year. Williams would be 3rd. That's a big difference between starting calibre and backup fodder. Which is what we see in their careers.

                          • Most of the QBs with 2 rings are first ballot hall of famers, so yeah, Plunkett's the worst. Him and Eli have a pretty good club going.

                            • Even for Football Perspective, this is a very math-heavy post. I’ve explained all the dirty work and fine details behind this system, but if you want to skip to the results section, I’ll understand. Heck, it might even make more sense to start there and then work your way back to the top. Background In

It is interesting to see Albert taking a Dump on Plunkett, btw.

Gee look who's number 2 all time for playoff performance.

And Doug Williams is #10 between Terry Bradshaw in 1978 and Aaron Rodgers in 2010, ahead of even Steve Young 1994 and Joe Montana 1984.
