I would argue that the main difference is that his supporting cast is VASTLY better. As bad as you think McNabb's receivers were, Vick's were likely worse. That's coupled with a horrid offensive line in Atlanta when Vick was QB.

You really don't think Andy Reid improved Vick's game? Andy Reid is, at the very least, a QB development specialist.

      • I guess you guys didn't read Peter King's MMQB?

Vick played the kind of game Sunday at Detroit he's been waiting to play for years. He was a polished quarterback who ran when forced -- when it was natural -- and threw from around the pocket the vast majority of his 41 pass-drops. He completed 62 percent (21 of 34). Played mistake-free; no turnovers. Just watching on TV, I saw a quarterback who scanned his options before taking off if nothing was there, the imprint of coach Andy Reid and offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg showing

Is Vick different? Is he going to be someone's long-term option a year from now? Watching him over the last six quarters, I think he has a real chance now.

"I'm 10 times better than I was four years ago,'' Vick told me from the Eagles' locker room in Detroit after the 35-32 win in his first start since 2006, the year before the dogfighting saga hit the public eye. "I've learned so much about the position, about being a complete quarterback, from Andy and Marty. How to stay active back there, how to make good decisions, or they'll be down my throat. I like that. It's something I need.''

        • It's evident to me that this isn't the same Vick as in Atlanta... this Vick is a passer.

Can you explain? I'm just curious.
Again, all I said was there was no guarantee (not knowing that, in fact, there was). I never said Kolb's job is in jeopardy, Mr. Word-Mouth-Putter-Inner.

Now, should Kolb be on a short leash as a starter -- shorter than it was prior to week one? IMHO, yes, absolutely.

            1. Vick has proven to Reid that he's a productive alternative who knows the offense and will put points on the board.
            2. Kolb now has a concussion history, which is much more meaningful than in previous years. Especially for a QB.
            3. Kolb is relatively immobile, and there are major issues with the Eagles O-line.
            4. Vick has plenty of experience and a track record of success; Kolb does not.

I find it hilarious that you feel Vick's two very productive games are meaningless, but that the relatively unproven Kolb (5 for 10, 24 yds, 3 sacks) deserves plenty of slack. Talk about wanting to have it both ways...

Concluding... There's a long-held belief in the NFL (actually, American pro sports in general) that "you don't lose your job due to injury." Apparently, Reid subscribes to this chestnut. But conventionally, one doesn't have a former Pro Bowl QB with a unique skill set waiting in the wings. If Kolb falters, Reid would be a fool not to consider making a change.

As I already stated, I'm not Michael Vick fan and never have been. Just calling 'em as I see 'em.

              • He's still no Doug Flutie.

You're wrong on that one Jrabbit... relatively immobile... maybe if you're comparing to Vick.

                    Check Kolb in college:

                    1:15 is a good one...

Kolb is a scrambler. 4.75 40 time is not bad at all for a QB.

Especially with bad O-line, having the pocket awareness to use that speed is a critical factor. If you don't know when to move, you go down -- and 3 sacks in 13 drop-backs doesn't sound like great mobility to me.

And yes, I said "relatively" for a reason.

Well yes, he's only played in one game. How on earth are you going to figure out what he's like if you don't play him.

You seem to be willing to judge a players entire future on one game. He's a rookie. Even Peyton Manning struggled.

Kolb is not a rookie It's his 4th year in the NFL

He's started 2 games already last year. That was his 3rd start. And he's played in relief of McNabb in the past when McNabb got hurt and when McNabb got benched (like in that Ravens game).

4th year player is a rookie

                              • Regardless of being a first year starter making him effectively a rookie... Guys who sat on the bench for 3 years before their first starts have generally done very well in their first games... you know, guys like Rodgers, Rivers, and Schaub
