"Best" being a combination of longevity, yardage, ypc and the way they ran.

Billy Sims was another good RB whose career was cut short by injury.

Yeah, never has a Super Bowl QB been so hated by a team's fanbase. I saw in the Trib today that his record as a starter is 19-12. That means, between his rookie year, his injuries and his ultimate benching, he only got 31 starts in 6 years. Still, the FA market in QBs is weak. He'll get work.

In my fantasy world, he would sign as the backup to Romo in Dallas...

It's striking that tomorrow three QBs will be entering the FA market who were all first-round picks and all wore #7: Kyle Boller, J.P. Losman, and Byron Leftwich (when with the Jacksonville Jaguars).

And another first-round pick wearing #7 is on the trade block: Michael Vick.

Maybe #7 is not so lucky after all.

The exception to the rule: Ben Roethlisberger.

1. Another former #7 bust [Leftwich/Boller]
2. An old guy with some capacity for plaiyng [Garcia, Warner, etc.]
3. A first day DP
4. A second day DP
5. Some guy from some college nobody bothered to draft
6. Devin Hester

Warner or Garcia would be a major upgrade, so they are automatically ruled out.

Warner will sign with the Cards after they finish doing their little dance.

I'd love to see the Bears sign Leftwich, who looked good off the bench in Pittsburgh and is finally healthy. But they will probably settle for a late-round flyer to go with Bret Bazanez (sp) and Caleb Hanie.

AFAIK, he's still under contract with the Tennessee Titans.

Tennessee will allow Collins to explore the FA market. Still, it's quite likely he'll end up with the Titans again.

Chris Simms is out there too. Several teams (including the Bears) have been mentioned as a possible landing spot for him.
