They finished 31st against the pass, WITH Jammer, which should tell you something...

They were 32nd by about 40 yards per game before they fired Cottrell.

You'll get no argument from me that early on their defense sucked.

Oh, right, that's because it was caught by a Charger.

It wasn't caught.

It would have been a heck of a catch by the Steelers, but it wasn't PI. He had a chance to get the ball and make the play and failed.

He was lucky to get a hand on the ball as the ball was overthrown.

Ball wasn't overthrown, and he might have made the catch if he wasn't being GRABBED BY THE DEFENDER.

Yes, Ben, there is a big conspiracy to make sure the Chargers look bad and lose. Ming lost a bet on the SD-IND playoff game last year, and he wanted to make sure that never happened again, so he paid off Hochuli and a couple of other refs. We're sorry we kept it from you, and we won't do it again.

Whine about their tough schedule all you want. San Diego was 1-5 against playoff teams in the regular season (1-1 postseason). Now -- look at what the Steelers and the Ravens did.
Pittsburgh, 4-4 (plus 1-0 postseason)
Baltimore, 2-5 (plus 2-0 postseason)

And please stop harping on the narrow margin of their losses. THEY WERE LOSSES.
Winning teams find ways to win.

N.B. If you're going to keep pretending the Hochuli call didn't happen, then stop pretending the first Pittsburgh contest was a 1-point game. The league admitted they got that wrong too, costing Pittsburgh a TD on a pick-6.

Who cares? You people have spent days debating if and/or how good the Chargers are in reality. Who cares? Jesus Christ. I go to Off Topic and it's Bush's fault, forever more.
I come to Sports, same mind-set. If Ben likes the Chargers, so what? They had a hell of a better year than the Lions, or the Bears, or the Redskins, or the Cowboys, or on and on.
By better, they went to the playoffs; and boys, that's part of the goal. You can't go to the thread title unless you go to the playoffs first.

Detroit's problems make the auto industry look positively secure. There isn't a position they are comfortable at right now, WR included. I could certainly see Clay deciding that Crabtree character is nice, and wouldn't it be nice to have a pair of WRs for his fantasy QB to throw to?

Of course at some point someone sits down with him and points out that you don't get to draft QBs named "Manning" and "Brees" in the NFL, like you do in fantasy. Hopefully, for their sake, that happens pre-draft...

I didn't know Ming had a thing for Peyton Manning. If he had such awesome powers why didn't the Bears win?

He ran out of money after going after the Chargers. We tried to get him to change his orders (to favor the Bears) at the last minute, but we failed.

I blame rah, personally. He refused to let Ming beat him at Civ

The Bears beat the Colts. And the Eagles.

Oh, and finished 9-7 (3-4 vs. playoff teams). Sadly, they had the misfortune to play in a division with another half-decent team in it.

Had GB sucked as bad as DET, or MIN not ~~played decently~~ gotten rid of Tavaris early on, the Bears would have had a locked-down division. Sigh.

Detroit needs to go defense, and somehow find a QB. These 2 points make it a certainty that Crabtree goes to Detroit.
