Not that far off. Moose got Mannyed in the first, and Tavarez pitched well enough to keep the lead intact.

Bad Moose showed up, damn. I turned the game on and it was already 3-0. Then I saw Moose's next pitch, a fastball, clocked at 85mph. I knew right then we were screwed.

How the Yankees can make Julian Tavarez look like a good pitcher is beyond me.

I didn't even watch past the 8th inning. After the blown call at 2nd (admittedly on a close play) and the subsequent Yankee implosion, I was done w/it.

Yay. Pettitte continues to be solid and the Yanks smacked around Mighty Mouth, which is always fun. Jeter keeps rolling, Cano looks like he really is heating up, and we even got something of value from ManCaveItch (hint: when your pitcher gives up a dinger to MCI, he's got nothing).

Still a long ways out, and the Angels are coming in. That's usually bad news as the Angels have typically been a real tough opponent for the Yanks. Gotta break that pattern, fellas!

Look at the bright side. You're even at home, swept on the road, and have 6 more on the road and only three at home.

Despite Schilling getting schelled (it happens every so often, but oh well), the Sox team ERA is about 1 below the MFY's, and Sox runs scored, batting average and OPS are equal or slightly better, despite Manny's slow start, Drew's non-performance, Lugo's underperformance and Pedroia's typical rookie inconsistency.

So much for the MFY's supposed advantage in offense.

Meanwhile, ol' pocket Rocket had some problems with the Portland Sea Dogs. I think I'll take Gabbard and Lester, thank you.

.005 in OPS+ isn't much of an advantage. To make up 10 games, they'd need to be closer to .050.

If there is a just and loving God in the universe, the Yankees will, at last, not make the playoffs. And Clemens will get some sort of career-ending injury in his first game back in the Bronx.

That's 5% better than the average. It's not massive, but when talking about entire teams its a good amount. Meaning that Yankees still have an offensive advantage. Like I said, it's the pitching which is the issue. The offense has little to worry about.

I think it's pretty clear how the baseball gods feel about the Yanks this year.

Making the playoffs is obviously a big questionmark at this point, given the hole they're in. I remain hopeful.

AFAIK it's a scheduling thing. 15 teams doesn't work. So if you're going to have 30 teams total, you have to split them 14 & 16.
