          • Now, if Bochy is smart, Bonds's butt will be firmly Superglued to the bench tomorrow. That way Barry gets a week to break the record where it should be broken - at home in San Francisco in front of the fans that have stuck by him.

And personally, I don't care if Bonds breaks the record or not. Whether it's Bonds or Aaron, whoever it is, he's just keeping the seat warm for A-Rod at this point.

            • Totally off-topic again and probably totally insignificant among all these MLB posts...

As you may know, I've seen my first live game yesterday. Now there is a lot to ***** about America and Americans but I have to give you one thing. You have baseball and we don't.

It was a weird experience, a sold-out stadium (my estimate is about 5000 people, which is a lot over here) with a lot of families (parents, grand-parents, little kids) just walking around, having fun, eating, drinking... I have been to a lot of football (soccer ) games but one thing that you don't do is bring your family with you. And here it looked like it was bring-your-family day. Awesome.

Every Cuban action was met with applause and every Cuban-thrown strike-out was met with cheering. There was no feeling of us against them, it was like, hey, the weather is good, the game is fun, we are all having a good time and who cares who wins.

Only drawback was that the Cubans brought there own fans, including some hot Latino chicas. And though great to look at, they all had their own huge black chaperone with them

All in all, I envy you Americans. But I saw a great game (from the Cubans that is, we sucked. Their starting pitcher was nasty, I think he wouldn't do too bad would he playing in the US) and my sole consolation is that as long as Castro lives you all won't be seeing a Cuban team live

              Ok, back to business...
Within weeks they'll be re-opening the shipyards
And notifying the next of kin
              Once again...

              • I'm glad you enjoyed it.

                In MLB news...

The Yanks managed to win a close game - the bane of their 2007 season thus far. Vizcaino is once again in jeapardy of overuse (he was really laboring last night), so we turn to a 21-yr old rookie for help. Joba will apparently be activated for tonight's game.

I'm excited, but of course also worried. I am reminded of one Fausto Carmona. Called up last season by a desperate Indians team, he imploded spectacularly as the Indians closer up at Fenway, blowing back-to-back games (IIRC). Yet this season he's been a frontline starter - one of the best in the league. At least Joba won't have to be the closer. Mo is handling that just fine.

                • I'm surprised you didn't mention that the Yanks are a 1/2 game away from the Wild Card, Arrian . And they are the hottest team in baseball with a 22-8 record in their last 30. Seems to jive with what I was saying about their Pythagorean record. The Yanks were better than their record indicated earlier this year.

The Mets are 4.5 games up on the Braves right now and 5 on the Phils.

Should be an interesting race, though I can't wait for Pedro to get back.

                  • It's not worth mentioning until they take the wildcard lead.

They have some crucial series' coming up (3 in Cleveland, 8 against Detroit, 3 in Anaheim and of course 6 games left against the Sox). If they beat up on THOSE teams... cue the Imperial March.

After all the talk about him staying away, surprising to see him on the big screen at San Fran!!!

                          • Maybe Selig promised to strike Bonds from the recordbooks after he's caught and prosecuted if Aaron makes an appearance right now

                            • Selig's handled this thing horribly. The guy is a ****ing disgrace.

RE: 756, I feel nothing. Whatever.

I'm much happier about the Yanks win last night, along with Joba's debut (a tad shaky with his control, but in the end 2 scoreless innings) and assorted other happenings. Still 1/2 game out of the WC and 5 games back of the Red Sox.
