    • Hopefully, people opted for Moderna instead of Pfizer. Moderna found to be 76% effective against the delta variant where as Pfizer was only 42% effective. It is still better than nothing especially since it results in less severe sickness but if you are getting the vax these days definitely opt for Moderna.

Honestly, the numbers are still showing it is almost exclusively unvaccinated people dying. So, no, the problem is mostly unvaccinated with vaccinated people at very low risk for dying (and remember around 99% of unvaccinated also recover to begin with).

I wonder how much of that is that Moderna has 3x (or more) the potency of Pfizer and it could be fixed by a Pfizer booster.

I'm fine with plague rats dying off. But the problem is that every time a plague rat gets Covid they give the virus a chance to mutate into something even more dangerous.

            • dude, the bug is in animals, its gonna mutate regardless of vaccinations

we will have to live with this just like we've lived with every other bug

and from what I've heard about Moderna vs Pfizer, Moderna is a larger dose

that may translate into more anti-bodies and maybe better long term protection, but either is better than nothing.

This line of thinking is dumber than most things I have heard here. With 8 billion people and around 90% of them unvaccinated we are going to see new variants regularly anyway. You are worrying about 5% of the global population (if even that) and ignoring 90% of the global population. Regular new variants, probably on a yearly basis at least, are a forgone conclusion.

Also, as Berz said there are now animal reservoirs so your positiin is out of touch with reality.

You should read all the sentences in a post before replying. You'd sound a lot less stupid that way.

Just about every mammal will be eligible to become a carrier and it is already turning up.. You can bet rodents have it, deer already have it, raccons and skunks will be next if it hasn't happened already,, and soon they will all have it. This is the new normal so get used to it.

Thankfully, if you have your vax your at very low risk so stop panicking and get used to it. It might help if you turn off the retarded news shows and seek more fact based news sources which don't make money off selling fear.

                • Just gut my 2nd shot Comirnaty (Biontech / Pfizer) 2 hours ago

Now I can go to demonstrations by Corona/vaccinatiion conspiracy theorists and shout to them that I am fully vaccinated and am spreading spike proteins ...
and show my digital vaccination certificate.
I am sure that this will cause the demonstrations to dispeerse immediately ... or at least, will cause the Corona conspiracy theorists to stay away from me

                  • I don't agree with a lot of Lubos says particularly about things that are politics adjacent, but something has been bothering me about some of the vaccine experience and the Delta variant. I think that his analysis in the beginning of his recent post helped me to see what was bothering me.

Now there is additional factors that he maybe hasn't considered. One is that mRNA vaccines might have a shorter lifetime than some other forms and Israel was one of the first to do Pfizer. Another is that some places (UK) use other types of vaccine which might have different behaviors (AstraZeneca, J&J and Sputnik, for example... and soon? Novavax). Finally, Moderna looks to have a longer lifetime, or something, compared to Pfizer.

But we might be looking at a booster soon, particularly if you got Pfizer at the beginning of the year.
