    • Only thing "free" college will do is increase the cost of college.

Because even a republican should ideally orient himself on reality and not on ideology, else he may get results like Bush jr. after his tax reform
That's, for exmple, the diference between Arnold Schwarzenegger and Donald Trump ... both republicans ... but the first with a sane mix between ideology and reality the latter however purely ideology driven

(I would compare it with christianity ... the christian fundamentalists are urely ideology driven and believe in the inerrancy of thir bible, even if science contradicts it ... whereas moderate christians usually develope a sane mix between christian doctrine and reality)

Oddly enough European countries providing "free" college seem to have lower costs than the USA.

Hmm, that's generally true with Euro health care costs as well.

Must be some kind of socialist plot. Or fake news.

The price certainly isn't going to go down. In fact the high price is because of subsidies as it is. Lower the subsidies and the price will go down. That's supply and demand. If you make it free you will obviously get more demand. Students won't care about the cost at all. At what point do you stop giving them free college? Some are just going to be professional students. They already are.

                • Howard Dean and MSNBC have a new fake accusation/conspiracy. It is that Trump is shaking down foreign governments (running a "criminal enterprise"), by getting them to stay at the Trump Tower. He said Mueller is looking into it.

First off, even if you offer free tuition and books, room and board will always cost. Which for many state Universities is the most expensive piece by the time you factor in scholarships and in-state tuition discounts.
Second, if you are offering tuition it would probably include a stipulation that you must maintain a certain grade point average that would weed out a lot of people that aren't really cut out for it. So the demand may not increase to the extent that you think it may.
Third, you could offer on-line education as the "free" aspect and actually reduce the costs of providing an education. The would even eliminate the expensive 'room and board' part.

                    • AP is reporting that Trump only goes to establishments that he owns in D.C., and that that's weird. I think it's a lot weirder that journalists think so hard about this stuff.

                      • I heard on ABC tonight that out of his first year in office he spent 100 days at Trump properties. A heck of a lot more than he used to make fun of Obama for.

                        • This is especially "interesting" considering the fact that it surely means that the state will pay for all of his stays in Trump properties (for example food and rooms for all the staff that is supposed to come with him to Mar-A-Lago).
With other words, Trump uses his position in order to enrich his own companies (and thereby himself) at the expense of the state. (another example was Melanias stay in Trump Tower in NY ... forcing the secret service that protected her to rent a hole luxury floor at Trump Tower (for which they had to pay lots of money as I hearrd).
Clearly a conflict of interest/ abusing his position in order to take personal advantage/gain (which everyone could have foreseen, when Trump didn't sell his conflicting companies (which all other presidents before him did) but instead just turned over the control to his kids)

I would assuem that, under objective considerations, these conflicts of interest should be something that should be examined as well (by some independent fact-finding committee).

But I guess that is too much hope, as the republicans that control the senate act according to the principle "there's honor among thieves"
