Okay, what can we realistically expect from a Trump presidency?

You could say they care about the environment too much, as their own plan would have used the tax to promote clean energy. Washington is a pretty liberal place, they may be able to eventually get their own version of the Carbon Tax instead. In which case, from their perspective, it would have been the right move.
(I'm not familiar enough with the details of the competing plans to give an opinion of my own on which is better.)
The "we could spend the money on clean energy" gambit was only a small part of the started objections I saw (which, while misguided in my opinion, would at least be consistent with the stated urgency of climate change). Mostly the objections seemed to center around distributional and social justice issues, seemingly largely because this would have led to rich people paying less tax.
The group of groups you were condemning do want a carbon tax, and apparently were willing to negotiate a compromise with the competing carbon tax plan. Of course they will use every politically useful argument to argue against the non-compromising competitor's plan, so as to preserve the ability to get their own (or a compromise) plan. Using other arguments on top of purely environmental arguments doesn't necessarily mean they do not care about the environment. People can care about more than one thing. People can even make arguments that support their position on something they care about when those arguments are about other topics they may or may not care about.
According to Allan Lichtman (the Professor for political history who correctly predicted Trumps victory (as well as the outcome of nearly every US presidential election since 1984)) there is a high chance that Trump won't complete his 4 years term, but rather will face impeachment at one time.
The man dubbed “Prediction Professor” for accurately calling every presidential election since 1984, including the 2016 election, now forecasts the impeachment of President-elect Donald Trump.

Doubtful, given that the Republicans hold both the Senate and house and unlikely to lose either.

He took this into account and says that:
"The Republicans are nervous about Donald Trump," Lichtman said. "He is a loose cannon. Nobody knows what he really believes or really where he stands. He can't be controlled. The Republicans would vastly prefer to have Mike Pence, an absolutely predictable down-the-pipe conservative Republican."

The only president Congress even attempted to impeach wasn't elected, he was a democrat running on a unity ticket with Lincoln. After Lincoln's assassination, he became president. Even so, they still fell short.
Trump's situation is very, very different. Republicans aren't going to impeach a republican, not after an election win.

You seem to have forgotten about Bill Clinton, who was impeached by the House and acquitted by the Senate. Nixon was going to be impeached, so bailed before it could happen.
