The point I am making is that birthright citizenship is part of why America did so well in the 19th century. If you were a peasant in Europe, you had no rights whatsoever, and your children would have no rights whatsoever. That did eventually change - but for many people, they had the opportunity in America for their children to become citizens. This is why you had the wave of immigrants in the latter half of the 19th and of the early portion of the 20th century.

No, what I'm saying is that without birthright citizenship you have a lot of people that would be excluded from citizenship just because they were technically born outside of America. Shouldn't folks in the newly annexed Texas become American citizens right away? That's what the 14th did.

Dunno how legal this is...I mean "criminal record" would say to me they had some trouble with law, but paid the consequences already - now they could get jailed for "illegal" immigration now and legal trouble previously?
