Okay, what can we realistically expect from a Trump presidency?

  • Just remember the democrats have the people and candidates to make a major comeback in two or four years. They simply didn't nominate other candidates this time around.

She is the big one to keep an eye out for. Half African American, half Indian... And she is known to be quite powerful. She has much more effective leadership abilties and was an attorney general of California.

Could she be one to run for President? Highly possible. She replaced retiring Barbara Boxer and will be one of the most visible in Congress.

The problem with Wisconsin, Michigan and Pennsylvania is that Democrats simply did not turn out to vote. Perhaps true with Ohio too.

For there is [another] kind of violence, slower but just as deadly, destructive as the shot or the bomb in the night. This is the violence of institutions -- indifference, inaction, and decay. This is the violence that afflicts the poor, that poisons relations between men because their skin has different colors. - Bobby Kennedy (Mindless Menance of Violence)

    • Enough said.

As I said, I think she will be the one leading the Senate Democrats. And as a Californian, not someone who takes no for an answer.

Why oh why people of Detroit didn't vote for Clinton and Wall Street? Srsly?

I have a better question, why oh why people of Detroit didn't hang Clinton and Wall Street for what they did with Detroit?

        • Pretty sure a freshman senator is not going to be running the show.

Well, hanging may be a little bit extreme, but why someone from Detroit may want to vote for Wall Street talking head?
Take your bias somewhere else. Your nasty views on gay people explain how delusional your views are.

Detriot voted for Hillary by a huge margin percentage wise by the way. Just that turnout was lower.

              Like... Obama.

And Harris actually has more prior experience than Obama (the 2008 Obama that is). Her time as Attorney General was significant and well noted. She is getting a lot of name recognition and her own background will matter.

Just like you say "fu Trump we should be against whatever he does no matter what without even listening", i think that's exactly the attitude that workers from Detroit should be expected to have towards Clinton and the likes of her.

Detroit did vote overwhelmingly for her percentage wise. You don't even know what you are talking about at this point. Just go away.

                      It was one small point.

                      • It's unclear how much, if anything, he will do about immigration. His signature proposal on the matter was fantastically impractical, and mainly used as a slogan or metaphor for the campaign itself. Getting rid of all illegals would be extremely complicated, trample on a lot of civil-liberties toes, and generate a lot of ill-will. It would also do bad things to the economy. Which doesn't mean he wouldn't try, but it seems more probable to me that his first focus will be on avenging various petty grudges.
Prior to LBJ, the US had pretty tight immigration restrictions. I suspect that Trump will end up going the pre-LBJ route. It would be workable. The argument would be along the lines that the US has to assimilate current immigration - which is as high as a proportion of the population as it's ever been.

Won't happen. He won't be able to convince the Senate on that one.

                          • FWIW, I don't support Trump's policy on immigration. I think the US should have a system where folks can pay to become citizens of the United States, rather than the present system which is a free-for all. It's been done before, and it's usually pretty successful. Rather than having people rejected because they aren't in the quota, if they really want to be Americans they can get over the hump. It wouldn't affect me because I'm already here.

IDK, there are a lot of Democrats who would be sympathetic to the position.
