  • you're simply projecting your own views on change onto the tens of millions who want it.

and do you really think that trump will do worse than romney? that looks very unlikely.

edit: in response to aeson, but the first line works for both.

    • Because no directionality is given in the "wrong way" poll, it's possible that more people want more D directionality than want more R. Gian's point about congressional and Obama's approval numbers and Elok's about visibility may or may not cancel each other out.

I could say the same about you. Millions who want change? You are posting platitudes. The Presidential polling doesn't show that, and Romney was actually closer to Obama polling wise, than Trump is to Hillary.

It isn't really about visibility, but overall impressions of Congress. People may not even know the names of Congressmen, but may disapprove of the way they do their job. And Congress is almost as visible as the President.

          • I think the Bernie bros who are/were supporting Trump lend some credence to the any change is good change motivation.

I think the vast majority are either supporting Hillary and some not voting at all. Bernie said it right... Trump doesn't represent any view of his own.

Romney got 47.2% of the vote. Trump has touched 45% a couple times in the polling average.

Trump will do better in the EC, but that has nothing to do with how many people want change, and is mostly due to Hillary being a horrible candidate herself.

                • That's why I think Hillary will get around 320. That is where most projected totals are at. Trump just has to win too many and that is a disadvantage.

And Georgia is closing up again for sure. I also still believe Arizona could be in play based on strong early votes for democrats. North Carolina and Florida have both drifted to Hillary.

                  • America used to be obsessed with the future. But, perhaps predictably in a campaign led by two baby boomers, this campaign has been all about the past.

Notes that neither candidate really has a particularly strong or bold vision for the future; the election is "let's turn back the clock on the economy" vs. "don't let him turn back the clock on social progress."

                    • As for "projecting", you are the one doing that. I am pointing out there is no clear directionality on what people mean by "wrong direction".

It can mean D or R or screw them both. But the end result is Trump is struggling to catch a likely felon.

I'm probably not the best example, TBH, since I've been politically jaded and apathetic for at least a decade.

She does have an economic plan actually but details don't interest anyone.

well quite. he may even do well enough to win the presidency, which romney never really looked like doing.

This is why I think c0ckney's cartoon from a page ago is a little unfair. It's worth voting for the establishment candidate if we have actually made some progress and don't want to see that progress undone. Voting for a candidate who acts as a giant mouthpiece for racism, sexism, and any other -ism you can find sets us back, even if he doesn't enact any specific policies to intentionally hurt minority X.
