Then you aren't eligible for UK citizenship, as you have no grandparents who were born in the UK.

        • Hey BK, did you grow up in a traditional British home, e.g. did you eat at lot of boiled meat and celebrate Guy Fawkes day and all that? I ask because there are three reasons to care about which country your distant ancestors came from: growing up in a family that celebrated the traditions of your ancestors, racism, and idiocy.

My mom's mom is very into that way of life and taught me lots of it. And there's way more to it than just 'boiled meat', et al. That's how her mother raised her and what she wanted to impart to us.

It would explain a lot about you if you think that getting in touch with my heritage is 'racism', but I suppose that applies only to white people.

My other granny was much less formal but had similar ideals for comportment, etiquette, etc. Her father was English. We were very close and I miss her.

I believe I stated that I was one generation off from it.

              • we can say Ben stole land from the Catholic Church
Worse, the Irish side stole land from Irish Catholics. The English side is *very* Church of England.

Perhaps that explains more as to why I've taken up with the Catholics. I do have Catholic ancestors but they are German Catholics, from OstPreuben which is quite unusual. There's a story there, but none of us knew. We only found out when we went through the parish records (or rather my cousin did), when she finally found out where they came from, on the birth record of her mother, who had just recently passed on. We had been told she was born in Canada. This was not so.

Two off. Your parent wouldn't have been eligible either. Your grandparent could be British by descent, but it wouldn't have been possible for your parent to claim citizenship.

                    Did they change that?

Apply for a UK Ancestry visa if you're a Commonwealth citizen and can prove that one of your grandparents was born in the UK - eligibility, fees, documents, how to apply, how long it takes and how to settle

Actually, no they both would have been eligible.

Serious question, are you actually capable of speaking the truth for even one moment? You just linked to an ancestory visa not to citizenship conditions. Oh and before you say it, no just because it says you can later apply to stay does not mean that it offers you the right to citizenship.

Not immediately no, but the Ancestry Visa allows you to get it eventually if you're willing to work at it.

No, it allows you into the country for 5 years after which you can apply for citizenship like anyone else. You made a fairly easy error, just admit it and stop being a jackass.

What error? Citizenship takes a lot of work. Something I should probably know about....

                            • my son will be eligible for british citizenship, but any children that he may have will not be. that is unless of course he decides to live in the UK, or they change the rules.

                                Classic Ben..

Ben: "For those born in Canada - they can obtain British citizenship with a British grandparent"
                                Everyone else: "No they can't"
Ben: "I will double down on this and produce some evidence that doesn't actually show what I claim it does.
Everyone else: "That's stupid, why not just admit your error"
Ben: "I will now start talking about something unrelated because I'm too much of a little ***** to just say 'oops, I made a mistake'".
