I've not argued this at all. I've simply asked the question, "why is consent important"? Nestor's actually made a key concession by stating that 'consent is binary' which renders age of consent meaningless. He's doing this to salvage his argument that sex and marriage are not connected and ergo should have different ages of consent.

I'm arguing the other side - that if you're old enough to consent to sex, you're old enough to consent to marriage.

A marriage has more consequences than sex (under the asssumption that the kids are smart enough to use any means of contraception when doing sex of course )

A marriage is a contract that has great impact on your tax class, the property you own, heritage rights and so on ... therefore it makes sense to only be able to sign such a contract att an age when you are seen as fully contractually capable

Sex has the possibility of children. This is my point here. Children are an enormous consequence of sex, requiring one to look after her. Again, it makes no sense to me that if you're ready to have sex that you're not also ready to marry.
