Virginia is the extreme outside shot I mentioned. The reasonable possibilities are Louisiana (Landrieu loosing her run off as predicted), West Virginia (Manchin switching purely out of political self interest), and Maine (you already mentioned Angus King).

The likelyhood of overturning a 0.6% lead in a recount is near nonexistent but then again 24 hours ago I thought the chance of Ed Gillespie essentially tying Warner was near nonexistent.

Manchin has already said no. Would be a serious gut check if both him and King crossed over seeing the political writing on the wall.

The whole saga just underscores that Virginia is a huge turnout game. I suspect it'll be moving steadily back into the R column as young white liberals move back into DC.

54 or 55 is enough to make it an uphill fight for Dems to retake the senate, and the House changing hands in the foreseeable future is well outside the realm of serious consideration.

Mid-term elections are basically a trumped up courtesy flush: politicians aren't done taking a shit on the people, but they also don't want to clog the bowl and actually have to deal with what they produced.
