For those who aspire to live in a high cost, high tax, big government place, our nation and the world offers plenty of options. Vermont, Canada and Venezuela all offer you the opportunity to live in the socialist, big government paradise you long for. –Senator Rubio

OIAR. Since 1966, the average is +2.6.
This was a landslide.
In fact, here are the complete results of non-presidental party gains since senate voting started in the 6th years of presidencies.
1918 +5
1926 +7
1938 +7
1950 +5
1958 +15
1966 +3
1974 +4
1986 +8
1998 +0
2006 +5
That +0 in 1998 really skews the average though. Admittedly this year is the 2nd best - but only somewhat above the average.Last edited by Sharpe; November 5, 2014, 19:13.

I see Ben's reputation for stating factual errors that twist things to his advantage remains intact - especially as 1988 WASN'T the 6th year of Reagan's presidency - 1986 was and that had a +8 gain for the non-presidental party.
Also - there are more seats now than there were before 1960.
So anything pre-1960 isn't applicable.
And you still managed to get 1966 wrong. Wow.
And you still managed to prove that Oerdin was wrong. Well done Sharpe. Well done.
Look, here's a protip. If it's an argument from Oerdin, don't bother defending it.Last edited by Ben Kenobi; November 5, 2014, 19:15.Scouse Git (2) La Fayette Adam Smith Solomwi and Loinburger will not be forgotten.

Yeah I did originally get 1966 wrong - I corrected it during your post - one reason I didn't post an average of the numbers I listed.

I see your reputation for being an idiot is also intact Ben - there was 96 Senate seats from 1912 to 1960 - 100 now - Yeah BIG difference - can't help but notice you decided to start your average after the +15 year to lower the average.
Yeah I did originally get 1966 wrong
Btw, did the average justify Oerdin's argument? Or did it prove me correct? Obviously the latter because you chose not to actually post the average and whine about outliers.
You want to toss the 0, you have to toss your 15.
Anywhoo, notwithstanding your pathetic whining about 'bias', R+9 is a landslide. Glad you took the time to confirm it.Scouse Git (2) La Fayette Adam Smith Solomwi and Loinburger will not be forgotten.

Man you really ARE a piece of work - I acknowledged my error and corrected the 1966 amount - you still haven't admitted your error in 1986.
The average from 1918 to 2006 is 5.9. Without the 0 and 15 it is 5.5. So it is above average by about 50% - this year is essentially 1986 slightly improved upon.
Also considering this year had 36 senate seats decided on instead of the 33 that it was supposed to have - doesn't that make this year irrelevant too due to the extra seats .Last edited by Sharpe; November 5, 2014, 19:38.
