Senate takeover seemed pretty likely but the magnitude is what's surprising. Also worth noting is that this election was won by sidelining the superconservatives who brought down takeover attempts in 2010 and 2012. A lot of work went into keeping the Todd Akins and Christine O'Donnells from winning primaries. Nice to see the GOP managed to clean house.

There is no Todd Akin or Christine O'Donnell. Though they are fairly conservative, they aren't crazies (well not too crazy as far as I can tell).

I'm not sure an election where Scott Brown (who won in MA), but lost in more conservative NH, and one in where Pryor lost, Hagen lost, is an indicator that prolife values are on the wane.

BTW, this is the first election ever where there are exactly 0 white southern democrats in the deep south in the house and senate. Landrieu is the last.

House projections... - 248-187.

Still a solid possibility that the GOP pushes to 250 house seats. 261 is 2/3rds.

So likely 248-187 in house and 54-46 in Senate. House GOP still stronger than Senate GOP despite the massive Senate swing. Senate swing was long overdue.

Exit poll demographics were extremely bad for Democrats among minority voters this year, compared with past midterms (2010). There was a 7 point swing for asians and Republicans (depending on the votes still to count), may end up with a majority of Asians for the first time. Republicans held steady with Hispanics, and a 4 point jump with white voters (and with women), from 2010.

This dramatically shifts the 2016 election in the Republican favor as a combination of a bunch of little shifts. Losing white women, Asians is going to cost the Democrats the presidency in 2016.
