How is requiring everyone to obtain photo identification disenfranchising them? Are you suggesting that people are too lazy to take a day to go and get it?

As has been pointed out a million times before, it's not that straightforward. In various states the process for getting the required ID can be arduous and expensive for people, and worse the types of ID allowed favour certain demographics over others. Wasn't it Texas where you couldn't use a state employee card but you could use an expired concealed carry permit? The example in the op blows your theory even further out of the water, because it doesn't even guarantee people will have the opportunity to find out they've been disenfranchised in time to do anything about it.

To be fair we don't have a national ID card either, yet somehow we manage to run elections without any of this crap about fraud. It's almost like it isn't actually hard to do when you take the partisans out of the picture.

It IS straightforward. I've helped people get their required ID after it was stolen from them.

Bull****. Get a drivers license. It's not hard. I've helped people do it and gone through it with them. It really isn't difficult to replace.

I've had to replace everything myself up in Canada, birth certificate too. I had to go to the vital statistics office, and I got my birth certificate. From there I got my DL back and everything else.

I got a provisional license the day of until the regular license came in the mail. Took a couple of weeks, max. Was it a pain in the ass? Sure. But it wasn't really that difficult.

I only cared about your brother's story in as much as you were using it to generalize to other people. I was curious how they get along in the modern world without any form of valid photo id given that so many basic activities seem to require one.
