He did kind of lose it didn't he? But I thought he had good points. I mean, sure one can say some of the precepts of Islam are medieval, and that a fair few people from medieval countries adhere to them, but you can say that about any religion.

I used to be an engineer, and in Australia we had a shortage of engineers so we imported a large number, mainly from the sub-continent and some from the Middle East, many of whom are Muslim. So over the years I've worked with and been friends with a fair few Muslims. Guess what - you'll never believe this - as a group, they're just like any other group. To be fair a great many Muslim people are now speaking out saying their declarations are stupid. That said ISIL' s leader supposedly has a doctorate level degree in Islamic studies or something.

I appreciate the anecdote, and I too have met and been friends with a number of Muslims. But there are three important things to take into account. First, the Muslims we meet are the exceptional ones, the globetrotters, the best educated, and the most open minded. It's what brings them to America or Australia. Second, our anecdotal experiences are less important for understanding Islam as a whole than scientific polling methods, which have already been linked to and discussed in this thread and on Maher's show. Third, the key issue with Islam is its intolerance of apostasy, which puts it in direct conflict with the UDHR, and which is presently recognized as binding by all the major schools of Islam. You can't say that about any other religion.

Wow, you take a really dark turn there. My end game is shunning. Make people understand that Islam isn't cool, that it isn't appropriate, and that we shouldn't celebrate it as an equal faith along side those others that do recognize basic human rights. Basically the same as the Westboro *******s. I'd shun them, I wouldn't exterminate them.
