This was about significant things to America, not Britain.

Britain didn't generally give out medals for individual actions other than gallantry medals you ****ing plum.

They did for Waterloo. A battle that they considered significant.

Again - nobody on the British side considered the action particularly notable, it was actually superceded by other actions in the front. It speaks volumes that it was never intended to be more than a raid.

The Navy got the Naval General Service Medal for service in the War of 1812, the Napoleanics and various other campaigns throughout that time, which was then awarded with a clasp showing which specifics the bearer was present at. There were 10 different clasps given for the War of 1812.

It's significance is massively blown out of proportion. How many even hear about Fort Detroit? There were other, more important battles in that war, especially at Tippecanoe. How many are even taught about Ogdensburg? As a teacher of American history, aside from Francis Scott Key - there's not a whole lot of significance to the action. Contemporaries were much more interested in Fts Detroit and Mackinac, and Tippecanoe (although Tippecanoe is way outsized for it's importance).
