So you could get a job in a public school? Do you have a teaching degree?

So you could get a job in a public school?
      For September? Absolutely.

Do you have a teaching degree?
Do I have a certificate here in Texas? No. I don't need one to teach in any private school here. Could I get one? Sure. It's just one 6 month course.

        Thanks for proving my point.
I said you weren't qualified to teach in a public school there because you didn't have all the qualifications and you have verified that.

After you take that 6 month course you can come back and tell me that you're now qualified.

I haven't needed it and it's increasingly unlikely that I'll bother getting one. Everyone asks about my degree and experience. Nobody cares about certification. I had planned on going back to school to pick it up, but public schools in the US are generally poorly regarded. Why would I spend money for an unwanted certification to work at a school that performs worse than where I am?

I had thought it would be a big deal like it is in Canada, but apparently not.

Obviously public schools do, so saying nobody is incorrect.

But again, my statement that you're not qualified to teach in a public school stands.

It's just a union tax. I was actually recruited by a small school here that specializes in it, but the certs are more trouble than they are worth.

Again, that doesn't change the fact that it is required, so there is no need for you to continue to challenge it's value.

the fact that it is required
If I lived in a slave state like Illinois, I'm sure that would be the case.

Certifications aren't a "union tax". Texas doesn't have a real teacher's union and still expects teachers to have certification.

Then why don't they permit certificate holders from other states to work here in a public school? It's a union tax.

Why should they assume teachers in other states fit the standards of Texas?

Are you saying that Texas's education system is superior to most? It's a union tax.

I didn't set the requirements for being a teacher in Texas, so whether I personally think Texas teachers are better is irrelevant. The legislature elected by the people of Texas did. Why would they decide to enforce a "union tax"?

Because the teacher's union lobbied for it?
