Ugh. I'm having a passive aggressive email confrontation with one of my roommates over bills. He pays the TV/internet bill and I pay electric and gas. Every few months we tabulate how much we've paid and then one of us writes the other a check to even things out. It's worked pretty well so far. Neither of us has written a check to the other since May, most likely due to laziness. In July, I sent him an email telling him he owed me $X. He never responded to that email, which I didn't care too much about because I knew I owed him $Y for TV/internet, which was probably pretty close to $X. Now, in October, he's claiming I owe him $Z, which is a sum significantly greater than X or Y, because I haven't written him a check for TV/internet since May. But he's ignoring the July email I sent him. Ugh.
(There's more to this story that complicates things/makes me look bad. He sent out an email in September saying basically the same thing as above, OMG you owe me this much, which I never responded to because reasons. Additionally, I paid one of the recent electric bills late (due to me being a depressed little ****, not due to me not having the money), and for reasons that aren't entirely clear to me, when the next electric bill came in it didn't show what I had paid (probably because it was sent out before I made the late payment), so it had two months worth of electricity on there, and my roommate took it upon himself to pay that whole bill, which he's claiming as part of what I owe him, despite the fact that in reality we overpaid the electric bill and the electric company now owes us $Q.)Click here if you're having trouble sleeping.

I hate dealing with other people and money. I particularly hate dealing with family members (esp. my parents) and money.
While it's too late to solve the cluster**** you've put yourself into ( talk (emails count) to him and sort it out. It's your fault for overpaying electricity, and not telling him , can you check your account balance online? I can, and I live in the ****ing third world FFS), you could set up a spreadsheet in google docs, and each of you can load the payments you make into it. Voilà , 85% less comunication needed.Indifference is Bliss

When I get home, I'll show him the latest bill, which says that they owe us $Q because we paid them $P, which is $R more than the $S my roommate paid when he paid two months of electricity.Click here if you're having trouble sleeping.

The most recent bill says thanks for paying us $450, which is $150 more than my roommate paid, which is the case because I paid the previous month first before he paid the previous month and the current month.Click here if you're having trouble sleeping.

Round figures, but it's mostly due to our new roommates being idiots and putting the AC at 68.Click here if you're having trouble sleeping.
