FWIW, we are soooo much better than the Episcopalians as well . Those folks are totally squishy liberals. We got those too, but we have an equal number of Neo-Orthodox (believe in historical-critical methods of reading the Bible [context matters], yet affirm the miracles of Jesus and in other places in Scripture and the Creeds)

They already think they do. I'm not sure what would change.

If it's 'neo-orthodox' that's a pretty good sign that it's not. Contextualism really is no different than Higher Criticism or the Jesus Seminar.

                • I love when ben is asked to prove something and when he can't falls back on asking for the opposite to be proved when no one actually claimed the opposite was true but were just calling him out on his usual made ups crap.
Its interesting. Today we learned that Rah is Catholic because his family is Catholic and he actually doesn't agree with anything the church teaches. We also learned that rah will do anything to take the focus off of himself.

I made my case. All you've done is shout, "that's retarded", over and over again. Is that considered a rebuttal in Illinois?

                  • First the Catholics came. Then the Protestants came, took over and made Texas a decent place, unlike Mexico.

Higher Criticism is a very good thing, so I have no problems with that. However, both are far different from the Jesus Seminar - Contextualism or higher criticism don't have to equal modernist readings of Scripture, in fact post-moderist theologians have used both, sometimes to attack the Jesus Seminar.

I would be willing to be that most people are the religion that their family raised them as. I don't have numbers though but I think it's pretty much common sense.

And you second comment, as expected, is completely made up. How could you even know that I don't agree with anything. You just make this stuff up in your mind.
                        You are hilarious.

                          • Higher Criticism is a very good thing
Ok, so you see my point. Contextualism and Higher Criticism are generally used to attack the universality and the extemporality of the teachings of Christ by rendering teachings we presently find offensive to our modern sensibility artifacts of several thousand years ago.

The problem is that there's absolutely no reason why this cannot be applied to other teachings such as 'love your neighbour', or almsgiving to the poor. One could argue that almsgivings is outdated and wrong given the existence of the welfare state which Christians already pay into them, and that the same applies to loving our neighbour in that we are already likely paying for his sustenance. Further duty to our neighbour is unnecessary.

However, both are far different from the Jesus Seminar - Contextualism or higher criticism don't have to equal modernist readings of Scripture
Sure, but it was developed in order to criticize the common teachings of Christ and dispose of teachings that modernists disliked.

, in fact post-moderist theologians have used both, sometimes to attack the Jesus Seminar.
Post-modernists are far more likely to attack traditional understandings of Christ and the Church than they are to attack the Jesus Seminar for pushing things too far. I haven't seen many Post Modernists side with traditionalists. They tend to side with Modernists over Traditionalists, or try to take a third option.

Sure. Until now, it's not the point you've made as to why you're Catholic and stay with the Church.

And you second comment, as expected, is completely made up.
Well, then. Answer the question asked. You've got Ming running cover for you and I've not seen him comment once that you never answered my question all the while he is attacking me. Odd that. Unlike you, I explained why I put forth my thesis after speaking to folks who came from a Catholic background who surprised me by being monarchist. Prior to this, I hadn't connected the dots.

As I did more reading and uncovered more about the Catholic church, I discovered the connection between the Catholic church, the Orleanists and the Legitimistes in France, and similar organizations in Poland, and in Austria along with Spain and Portugal. If it might be said that monarchists are not a majority of the Church, the Church is by far the majority among monarchists.
