    That...might be a bad comparison.
No, I did not steal that from somebody on Something Awful.

    • That's where personal opinion come in. I'm still a catholic because of those other things. That doesn't mean I have to agree with everything 100%.
And on gay marriage, I think they're wrong. But I agree it's their right to disallow it in the church.
Again, I don't believe you have to agree with them 100% of the time. Things do change and some of that change comes when enough people disagree.

      • But that's what I'm trying to get at. What 'other things' make you still a Catholic - I mean, aside from your mother would croak?

I mean, after all, I personally know the Executive Assistant to the Office of the Secretary of the ELCA, and she lives in Chicago (ELCA HQ) - I'm sure we can find you a very good Lutheran church which may better reflect that which you know God is calling us to be in this world .

        • Maybe after my daughter is married off so I don't have to worry about the awkwardness that that would cause.

But again I'm old, change is not the thrill it used to be, and like I said it's not that important to me. (which is the one thing that I'll agree that if I'm to be given grieve, that's what I should get it for)

You agreed with Bens position to create a recruitment opportunity? Skillfully played.

                  • There is a case for arguing over how much participation is required to count as Catholic, especially for statistical purposes. That is, how many "Catholics" go to church twice a year unless they have a kid to baptize/confirm for formality's sake? And, how many of those Catholics are counted when they say "X percent of Catholics use birth control" and so on?

With that said, BK's opinions and concerns should always be ignored, on this matter and every other.

                    • That's my main issue with ben, besides that he's a dishonest jerk, is that he judges. I don't care if he thinks I'm a jerk, but he personally gets no say on whether I'm a Catholic.
Actually, seeing as my job description specifically lays out teaching duties wrt the catechism, yeah, part of my job is judging what Catholics actually know and where they are off base from where they should be. Preparation for confirmation, etc.

I'm actually not allowed to say much about non-Catholics. But - Catholics are fair game.

                        Christ, not this bull**** again.

I don't see why non-Catholics get to define who is and who isn't Catholic.

And, how many of those Catholics are counted when they say "X percent of Catholics use birth control" and so on?
Better question - who did the survey? Why did they take the time to do the survey? I could easily do a survey and procure the complete opposite results if I'm allowed to self-select the participants beforehand.

With that said, BK's opinions and concerns should always be ignored, on this matter and every other.
Right, because you're so much more of an expert.

Heh. The ECLA is a good fit for rah. All the hate towards the Catholic church is still there, he could continue to rant on about the pedophile priests, and guess what, he'd fit right in! They believe all the same things he does anyway. He'd have a lady priest, gay marriage, everything he could possibly want in a church.

Most of us are pretty sketchy on why a semi-literate religious convert with clear mental problems gets to define who is and who isn't Catholic too, but life is full of such mysteries.

Yes, we all knew you converted to atheism. But what did you convert from?
