This assumes that someone willing to use violence is deterred by violence...which is a curious assumption to make.Scouse Git (2) La Fayette Adam Smith Solomwi and Loinburger will not be forgotten.

the thing is that people can't answer my main point, that in a robbery situation both parties having guns means a much higher chance of a lethal outcome

In the vast majority of all crimes using the threat of weapons, if the victim does not resist, he is not harmed.
Why would the perp want to escalate the situation when they have achieved what they want?
What then?
Especially when escalating the crime vastly increases their chances of getting caught and their punishment.
Mugging in the UK, virtually ignored by the police, and basically a slap on the wrist if caught.
Mugging with murder, priority one crime for the police and a long time in jail.
Yes Ben, that's why the death penalty is soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo effective in curbing the rampant gun crime epidemic in the US

Apparently you're still alive ... if you'd pulled a gun in all 5 cases (and the culprit had a gun), you probably wouldn't be.
Third time was an actual home invasion with a crowbar - and you can find the thread here. I charged the burglar just before he was able to bust in. Was very lucky there. Confrontation is what saved me.
Fourth time, and the first time I was assaulted - I got slugged, just took it and walked off - dude then assaulted a cashier at the local burger joint, by trying to pull her through the teller window.
Fifth time, had my door busted down and I was fortunate to get out of that. Dude ended up in jail.
Sixth time, I had my motel room trashed. That was the worst of all of them. I lost a lot of stuff that meant so much to me - turned out to be a disgruntled employee of my employer who had the key to the room. Just about got me fired too over false allegations by said employee after the fact trying to cover his ass, until I told my boss that I was willing to walk out on the job altogether. I told him the job wasn't worth losing what I lost. I left, walked out and he did some digging and they had a security camera show it all.
That was an interesting if sad chapter. I did recover most everything eventually. I think that's personally - the worst of all those incidents - in a crazy year. I almost forgot about that because of how insane that year turned out to be.
I dunno about you - but that's way too many incidents for me. I've been lucky so far - one of these days, I'm going to get unlucky and it's not going to work out well. I'm glad I'm out of Canada. Texas is much safer.Last edited by Ben Kenobi; January 8, 2014, 14:27.Scouse Git (2) La Fayette Adam Smith Solomwi and Loinburger will not be forgotten.

None of those cases had any guns involved. Everyone lived. I'm not sure how that helps your argumentScouse Git (2) La Fayette Adam Smith Solomwi and Loinburger will not be forgotten.

38 “You have heard that it was said, ‘An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.’ 39 But I say to you, Do not resist one who is evil. But if any one strikes you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also; 40 and if any one would sue you and take your coat, let him have your cloak as well; 41 and if any one forces you to go one mile, go with him two miles. 42 Give to him who begs from you, and do not refuse him who would borrow from you.
