“I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”

Oh, and no one but ****ing morons believe Jesus was actually born on December 25th.
Also, yes, there is nothing saying that Jesus actually hit anyone when He drove the moneychangers from the temple. The driving of the money changers is told in all 4 Gospels and only John mentions the scourge - makes me think that the scourge was used to scare the money changers, but not whip them (otherwise the other Gospels would speak of that instead of just saying Jesus cast the money changers out).

Btw, Slow, did you realize there hasn't been a single post on Peyton Manning's record setting 51st TD? Is that the sign of a "good" or even a "decent" sports forum?“I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another. PUT UP OR SHUT UP!
How does one parse the divide between religion and anti-gay when the comments are part of his religion and he quotes the bible? I can't see it. Can't be done.
Self-inflicted what? He's the big, big winner here. Worst case, A+E drops them, they move to another network. Now he's a household name.
I'm just saying, if it were to be taken to litigation - Robertson would win.
From the standpoint of breach of contract it's a significant change. A+E didn't have to approve of the interview. They could have shut it down, as I doubt Phil would have conducted the interview without permission. I haven't seen A+E suggest anything that the interview was given without their permission. I could see them suspending them if he had - but that's not their argument. They are arguing content is justification for suspension. Which opens up a giant legal can of worms, given that Phil's getting paid partly, to express his religion in public. I don't see how you can argue that 'sanitizing religion is ok', that you can only express parts of your religion and not others.
This case would have significant consequences if it were taken to litigation. However, I doubt that this will happen.
People have been sued under Section 13 in Canada - and eventually the folks charged under section 13 for 'hate crimes', and dismissed, have eventually been reinstated or had the bar on their employment rescinded. But it took years. I know some of these folks.Keep on Civin'

Seems to me the Robertsons hold all the cards. No lawsuit will ever come out of this, thats just an idiotic proposition. But the Robertsons have no need to deal with A&E as they have plenty of money and this latest controversy likely will make them even more popular with their own following. A&E needs them. If A&E were so stupid to invoke breach of contract against the Robertsons they essentially will have destroyed any remaining following on their most popular show."Just puttin on the foil" - Jeff Hanson

"The "Robertsons" don't hold all the cards. Only Phil has been placed on "Indefinite Hiatus" (which could only last a short time since A&E likes money). The rest of the Robertsons are under contract and are FORCED to deal with A&E.
In the end, the show will probably continue as usual after A&E has finished with their grandstanding to appease the advertisers.
And frankly, as popular as everybody thinks Phil is, he would be hard pressed to make $200k per episode with somebody else in a different but similar role.Keep on Civin'

Why not run the shows they had already filmed with Phil... he already got paid for those.
A&E placed PHIL on "Indefinite Hiatus". That is the LEAST act they could have taken. They didn't fire him (they aren't that stupid)
This is basically a slap on the wrist... A supposed Moral High Ground to appease the advertisers and Show their "concern" to the gay community.
They get their moment to say how "terrible" it is... and how they don't condone his actions... and how it isn't the stance of the network... blah blah blah blah.
It will be interesting to see how long "indefinite" is. I personally think "indefinite" isn't going to be too long. It is their number one show.
There will probably be some more apologies, some more hand wringing, some more positive statements by A&E toward the gay community, and then it will business as usual.
They are in the business of making money
Phil may be hung out to dry for a period, but the rest of the bunch is still under contract, and they aren't going any where.Keep on Civin'

You are right A&E will cave, Phil will be put back on the show but only because the Robertsons hold all the cards. Phil's not going to blink nor are any of his family.
Sweet jesus, have any of you ***** ever actually seen a contract before?

Amusing how quickly some conservatives here have changed their views on business because of this incident.“As a lifelong member of the Columbia Business School community, I adhere to the principles of truth, integrity, and respect. I will not lie, cheat, steal, or tolerate those who do.”
