Was he ? I don't recall at any point Sister Bendy giving us any evidence of the United Kingdom's war aims, or what the declaration of war with Germany in 1939 was meant to do. However I am glad that's he quoting me- it means at least he'll get one fact right.

    • War with Germany had already been declared.
Yes, and? He set out to war - refers to Churchill, not to Britain. Churchill himself set out to war to protect Poland.

That's o.k., we know Sister Bendy is allergic to facts and figures, we make allowances.
Hey, I'm not the one who thinks that the UK went to war with the Soviet Union back in '45.

      • When did this occur ? Not until half way through the 18th Century. The United Provinces still had a Raadspensionary then, and still wasn't a monarchy.
Next you'll be telling me that William III wasn't King of the Dutch.

And ? It makes more sense to skip the various metamorphoses of states and empires in that area and simply refer to Ruthenians as Ukrainians.
Except for the fact that they aren't Ukrainians, never have been Ukrainian (for one, they are Catholic), have a distinct area and for their entire history prior to Stalin lived in a different country.

Yeah, I'll get on the 'phone now.... hmm, they say tell Sister Bendy not to be such a pompous windbag.
Umm, I'm not the one covering up for Stalin's atrocities.

Alternatively read Norman Davies's 'White Eagle, Red Star' and find out there (as in other history text books, some possibly written by non-Catholics, Russians, ex-Communists or even Anglican vicars) that war was never officially declared.
        Ahh, more commie propaganda.

No I'm not, and Pilsudski at the time was in favour of a new Lithuanian/Polish Commonwealth. I believe that Vilnius had a majority Polish population at that point
Which it did, btw. The entire province had a Polish majority at the time. As did all the territories I stated.

Ergo, Pilsudski was not 'invading' territory which he and many other Poles considered intrinsically Polish.
So you're making my argument for me. Thanks, Molly.

        • If he was waging a war to protect Poland, why didn't he also declare war against the Russians?
Oddly enough he did that Iron Curtain speech, in 1946.

Nikolai, that's silly. Churchill's stated goals, for a long time prior to the invasion of Poland, was to combat the Nazi regime. Churchill's war goal was no less than the complete defeat of Nazi Germany. While Chamberlain went to war for Poland, Churchill wanted war for Czechoslovakia.

Churchill wanted war for Czechoslovakia but not for Poland? You're admitting now that Churchill thought Munich was a disaster prior to September of 1939, thus further reinforcing my point?

The point that Churchill went to war to save Poland, yet Yalta deprived Poland of her freedom?

                  • Is that what you've been trying to get across for the last three pages? You really aren't very good at communicating. A lot of the things you've brought up in this thread have nothing to do with the point you are allegedly trying to make.

So we've moved on now from critiquing the actual content to critiquing the style? Sadly my fluency in moron leaves much to be desired. Perhaps I should hire you as a translator.

                      • I certainly don't have any objections to the assertion that WWII turned out badly for Poland... I don't see what the history of Konigsberg has to do with that, though...

My family was fortunate enough to have lived on the Polish side of the line where records were preserved. Those on the Russian side of the line have been less fortunate.

So this is a personal sob story about how WWII hurt your family? Aren't you special... well not really since hundreds of millions of people can tell stories about how their families were adversely affected.

Actually, my family left after the first world war. My side of it moved to Canada, others to Hamburg. The area was right on top of the Battle of Tannenburg. The church records preserved are what allowed us to trace it back. From my understanding they left early in 1922.

The Ben argument in a nutshell (which also includes lots of intellectual dishonesty and goalpost shifting in the contradiction and making up stuff portion).
