Remind me why I live here again? Ugh. First they jacked up groceries with their idiotic bag ban.

That's what you get for living in socialist Texas.

Yeah, they basically do the same things Canada does but about 5 years behind. Every dumbass bill makes the rounds here. They did a bag ban on groceries about 5 years back in PG. Same with the lightbulb crap too.

The good thing is that everywhere outside Austin is sane. I mean seriously - there's a Whataburger on every corner. Why do so many Americans hate their culture?

Saudi Arabia would be the ones banning fast food.

Yeah, because they have a real thing for American culture. I repeat, Saudi Arabia hates America almost as much as some Americans.

No idea what you're talking about.
No plastic bag fee/ban here...fast food is everywhere...no light bulb rules.

You seem to think "Canada" is your butt****nowhere hippy town in BC. Not true.

Free bags are a pointless wasteful blight and should definitely banned, especially in places where people always drive everywhere and have no excuse not to carry a bag. I've always got one and I mostly walk places.

                  Well done Austin.

And well done if they are trying to do something about the massive obesity problem too.

Austin is a socialist island in Texas, Ben. Why are you shocked by this?

If you have to legislate doing the right thing, you aren't doing it right.

The vast majority of people here use reusable bags. I do it just because they don't ****ing break.

Most grocery stores here give you a $0.03/bag discount if you bring your own, or you can have it directed to charity.

You can change culturally it just takes ages. It's improved tons here without a ban, you tend to get bonus points on your loyalty card or whatever.

In Ireland they added a small tax on bags and usage dropped to almost nothing almost instantly.

Except for the fact that they get reused everywhere. Need a liner? Use a plastic bag. Seriously. I have a several years supply because they always come in handy for odds and ends.

Whereas, reusable bags are a terrible idea. The concept of a supermarket is that food gets trucked in, food leaves the store. You don't want used food coming back in the store because of contamination risks. Reusable bags are completely unsanitary.

And well done if they are trying to do something about the massive obesity problem too.
Yeah, the solution to the obesity program is a massively expensive, highly intrusive and pointless regulation that won't actually achieve anything because there are corner stores everywhere. Are you really going to try to enforce a 'no commerce zone'? I remember when they did that for the schools in PG - it was nothing about combatting obesity - everything about making sure that the cafeteria was a monopoly. They even tried to restrict bag lunches.

If you have several years worth already you obviously need more every time you shop don't you.
