Pretty stupid, I'd have to say, but not barking mad.

Now you see, this is homophobic, and it makes Christianity look bad, and I feel ashamed by association.

I don't know. When you consider that Christianity pretty much came with the coming of Christ, and the Old Testament was before that, I could call it barking mad.Life is not measured by the number of breaths you take, but by the moments that take your breath away.

Arguing that him writing letters to the editor in his time as a private citizen constitutes 'conduct unbecoming for a teacher' is just code words for politics in another language.
i'll take their word over yours.
Let's be clear here - the complainant wasn't the principal, the administration, fellow teachers, his students or the parents involved. The complaint came from the BCTF itself. Given that the mandate of the BCTF which Kempling was required to pay dues, is to protect their teachers, this is a violation of their own conduct.
chris kempling believed, as you do, that they acted improperly. he took them to court and lost. i don't see what's hard to understand about this."The Christian way has not been tried and found wanting, it has been found to be hard and left untried" - GK Chesterton.

the courts looked at the facts of the case and decided that the BCTF's actions were reasonable and within the law.
it seems that the BCTF's mandate is also to demand certain standards of behaviour from teachers.

Then they ought to refund Kempling's dues paid. There's a conflict of interest in that Kempling was forced to fund and depend upon the regulatory body for his employment while at the same time facing them as his accuser. They cannot uphold their primary duty to represent the interest of Kempling.
How does the BCTF have the power to regulate what Kempling does in his spare time? This is a gross overreach of their mandate."The Christian way has not been tried and found wanting, it has been found to be hard and left untried" - GK Chesterton.

A gratuity is based upon level of service. Period.
If you make it mandatory it removes incentive for good service."I have never killed a man, but I have read many obituaries with great pleasure." - Clarence Darrow
