Restaurants should just charge a standard gratuity for all tables and prohibit any additional tipping. It's the best way.
Why not simply raise prices and have no gratuity whatsoever? It's dishonest.

The problem with the tip based model is that restaurants use them to compensate staff that ought to be paid by the restaurant. Busboys, cook, etc. The wait staff should keep everything they get from tips - because that's what they earned. Sharing with the waitstaff (and the owner takes a cut), is wrong.

I had to do that as well - but only a portion, about 20 or so a week so it wasn't a big deal. Everything else we kept. So out of about 250 a week, about 10 percent went to the owner.

So either he was lying to BK back in 2005, which of course impugns his credibility in general, or (more likely), Ben has once again been caught lying to us. Quelle surprise.
He was blacklisted back in 2005 when I met him. We talked about that - but he said he still had hope of finding work in the public sector again. He wasn't actually able to work for anyplace that was a BCTF shop (every public school in the province).

In order to work for a private school - he had to give up his membership. So it's likely he spent 3 years driving trucks because the Union would ensure he wouldn't work again in the private system.

Good. Sh!tholes like that shouldn't teach. He probably just wanted to have sex with the underage girls anyway.

How do you know if your customers are liberals? Are you demented enough to just assume that everyone who is mean to you must also disagree with you politically?
What, back then? It's not exactly hard to guess that the customer that calls on welfare wednesday to pick up a large KFC order for himself and his girlfriend and pays with the 50 (or sometimes the hundred dollar bill!) that I had to have a float for wasn't a conservative. It was also a given that you weren't gonna get a tip either.

Dude who assaulted me was one of those folks, btw.

I never had any run ins with the good ol' boys. They were good people. Always tipped and sometimes extra if you were bringing to their party.

Also you have to remember is that the city isn't that big - lots of the people were regulars and you got to know them pretty well. Some were friends from school and whatnot.

Pretty sure that's an actionable statement. You might be unaware of recent Ontario law, but Ontario now considers this to be defamation.

Wait, which one of those things implies someone is a librul? Buying fried chicken? Paying with a $50 bill? Buying something on "welfare Wednesday"? Why couldn't a Republican do those things? Could you explain your thought process more thoroughly?

Are you suggesting that slandering someone based solely on their sexual preference is not only wrong, but actionable? Good thing I'm not a teacher.

as a private citizen, he has a right to write and express whatever ridiculous views he has. as a public school teacher, he has to uphold certain standards of behaviour, including, it appears, not writing homophobic letters to the editor. he couldn't manage that, and the school district took action. he then claimed that his rights were violated because of said action. that's what the case was about. it went to court and the bigot lost.
It's a violation of the Canadian constitution to have prior restraint on free expression of speech. Others have fought this on similar grounds (Boissoin and Whatcott) are two, and both won their cases, although I believe Whatcott had to relocate. In any case, Kempling seems far happier teaching in a private school which is their gain and a loss to the public sector. Arguing that him writing letters to the editor in his time as a private citizen constitutes 'conduct unbecoming for a teacher' is just code words for politics in another language. Expressing said things to students in a public school - I could totally see their argument for suspension. But - he never did so. His students actually stepped in and tried to keep him on, but once suspended, he got blacklisted and wasn't able to teach at his old school.

Let's be clear here - the complainant wasn't the principal, the administration, fellow teachers, his students or the parents involved. The complaint came from the BCTF itself. Given that the mandate of the BCTF which Kempling was required to pay dues, is to protect their teachers, this is a violation of their own conduct.

Recent Ontario law doesn't care. Online defamation applies to statements made online and insofar as you reside in the province of Ontario these are actionable under Ontario law. The statement that you made there is actionable. I suggest either withdrawing your statement or contacting legal representation. Up to you.

Welfare when it gets handed out gets handed out in 100s and 50s, at least back when I was doing deliveries. We didn't have those fancy EBTs and whatnot, and even if you did, you couldn't pay for pizza then. So we could be reasonably certain that the dude living in the worst part of town in a crack shack paying for his delivery wasn't one of those tea party folks we all hear about.

I'm sure it's possible that the crackhead was one of the liberaltarians, but it seemed unlikely as I didn't see a copy of "the Fountainhead" around. Plus most of them are articulate.
