Really? I spoke to the man himself - back in 2005 and that's not what he said went down. Disciplined, Suspended and then fired. He eventually found another teaching job, but in 2005, he was driving a truck for a living. It was a terrible outcome for a good man.

That was exactly what the court case was about - whether or not Kempling could remain a public school teacher while publicly writing about Christian teachings that homosexuality is sinful. Which is protected speech as freedom of religion is protected by the Canadian constitution.

You have to address what Kempling actually said. And again - Kempling did not teach that in class - he wrote a letter to the editor. That's what got this whole firestorm started. As a private citizen - he is entitled to write to the editor and that includes on topics of homosexuality and gay marriage.

I suggest reading up on the case. It's a travesty and the result is that the BCTF lost a fantastic teacher for political reasons only. Imagine if the BCTF fired a communist? Would that not start a ****storm?

as a private citizen, he has a right to write and express whatever ridiculous views he has. as a public school teacher, he has to uphold certain standards of behaviour, including, it appears, not writing homophobic letters to the editor. he couldn't manage that, and the school district took action. he then claimed that his rights were violated because of said action. that's what the case was about. it went to court and the bigot lost.

i don't see the quandary. i don't see any problem with a public school boarding setting certain standards of behaviour for its teachers, which include not expressing prejudice against groups of people.

What's the surprise? Liberals tip crap. Maybe 5-10 percent at most. Had one customer complain that the Pizza had mushrooms on it when they didn't order mushrooms, and insisted that the business comp them a free pizza. I had to drive back and pick up the other pizza (because they insisted that I took the wrong one), and drive back out with the new one. Wasted an hour of my time and I was working straight commission. I talked to the owner of the pizza place after and told them - "next time, stiff them, and I'll pay out of pocket for the Pizza". That way you're not losing anything on the pizza ordered but not delivered, and I lose less money than an hour off dinner rush. Done. Never had that problem again.

And that's not even mentioning the dude who's gf bought KFC on welfare wednesday who tried to assault me for 'trying to rip her off' because he couldn't break a 50 correctly.

The real lesson of this story is that the American restaurant model of forcing wait staff to earn a living wage via tips is terrible and needs to be banned. Studies have shown that it as a bad model for encouraging good customer service and the only customers who prefer it over a mandatory gratuity are the type-A *******s like the couple in this story who want to use tips as a means of punishing people for displeasing them.

Restaurants should just charge a standard gratuity for all tables and prohibit any additional tipping. It's the best way.

Good idea but it'll never catch on since no restaurant wants to be the first to tell customers they have to pay a mandatory gratuity and conservatives would throw a hissy fit if the government tried to make everyone do it.
